The Meat Manager position is a key leadership role within the meat department, responsible for supervising all activities related to product receiving, stocking, labeling, and ensuring the cleanliness and organization of aisles, freezers, and refrigerators. Reporting directly to the Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager, this non-exempt hourly position demands hands-on leadership, excellent communication skills, and keen attention to detail. This role involves overseeing meat department employees, including Assistant Meat Managers, Meat Supervisors, and Stockers, to maintain optimal department operations that align with company standards and government regulations. The Meat Manager develops employee schedules, monitors performance, and handles disciplinary actions or hiring recommendations. On the operational side, the position requires monitoring compliance with HACCP regulations through inspections and audits, managing inventory to avoid shrinkage or damage, and ensuring pricing accuracy based on market conditions.
Advanced skills in equipment operation such as Toledo scales and Dennison label machines are essential, alongside supervising ordering processes to maintain competitive pricing and minimize spoilage. This role also entails maintaining refrigerated equipment by adhering to maintenance schedules and contracts. Creative merchandising duties involve setting up impulse areas and organizing aisles with logical product adjacencies to maximize sales potential.
Physical demands for this position include the ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs frequently, maintain agility and manual dexterity, and work in environments that expose the employee to cold or freezing temperatures. The work environment involves using equipment such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks, requiring safety awareness and adherence to company policies.
Candidates for this position should hold at least a high school diploma or GED with significant experience in customer service or a related field. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, computer literacy, and the ability to interpret business and technical materials are essential. The Meat Manager is expected to demonstrate a high degree of interpersonal skills to manage confidential situations effectively and exhibit a strong commitment to company values and customer orientation.
This comprehensive role is vital for maintaining the company’s reputation for high-quality meat products and exceptional customer service, ensuring that all operational and regulatory standards are met.
