Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency degree
  • 1-2 years grocery retail experience in meat department preferred
  • Ability to maintain highest customer service
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high volume retail environment
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and days
  • Familiarity with Health Department regulations
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency with meat cutting tools and equipment
  • Ability to follow safety protocols
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work on feet for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency degree
  • Preferred 1-2 years grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures
  • Previous experience in natural foods industry is a plus
  • Must maintain the highest level of customer service
  • Ability to adapt to high volume retail and cross-functional teamwork
  • Capacity to take initiative when problems arise
  • Flexibility to adapt to various situations
  • Advanced attention to detail with ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must support and contribute to team goals
  • Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations
  • Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures
  • Skills working with knives, tenderizers, grinders, and meat machinery
  • Expert packaging and wrapping skills
  • Ability to cut and weigh various amounts of meat and seafood
  • Understands Country of Origin Labeling compliance for seafood products

Job Duties

  • Ensures cleanliness of meat and seafood cases, storage area, and work area for sanitation and safety
  • Stocks meat and seafood cases including presentation, facing, filling, and organization of products
  • Examines product rotation and removes expired stock
  • Responds positively to customer inquiries and assists with purchases and product selection
  • Receives, inspects, and logs product shipments for accuracy, temperature, and quality
  • Monitors point of purchase signs and promotional materials
  • Operates equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks
  • Monitors proper temperatures during production of meat and seafood items
  • Prepares various meat and seafood products using correct ingredients and cooking times
  • Maintains organization and rotation of products in cooler and freezer
  • Accurately weighs, labels, packages, and dates meat products
  • Maintains safety practices while using cutting accessories
  • Participates in pre-inventory preparation
  • Sustains high level of product knowledge and preparation
  • Ensures organized, sanitary, and clean department appearance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
