The university operates through eight diverse schools, including the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, Cox School of Business, Lyle School of Engineering, Meadows School of the Arts, Simmons School of Education and Human Development, Dedman School of Law, Perkins School of Theology, and Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies. Together, these schools serve approximately 7,000 undergraduates and 5,000 graduate students.
SMU is deeply committed to academic freedom, open inquiry, and maintaining a nonsectarian environment. The university benefits immensely from its close relationship with Dallas, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States. This connection enhances opportunities for unique learning experiences, research projects, social engagement, and career development, providing students and staff alike a launch pad for global impact. SMU is renowned for fostering ethical and enterprising leaders who succeed professionally and contribute significantly to their communities. Capitalizing on a robust data-driven approach and a powerful supercomputing ecosystem, SMU thrives as an innovative center for research and education.
The Front of House Manager position at McFarlin Memorial Auditorium within SMU represents a critical role responsible for the overall operation of this premier on-campus venue. McFarlin Memorial Auditorium is a multi-purpose facility with a seating capacity of 2,386, hosting a diverse range of events, from lectures and concerts to university ceremonies and community gatherings. The individual in this role will serve as the primary contact for booking requests and will expertly coordinate all scheduling to maximize the facility's usage and outreach.
This full-time, on-campus position requires hands-on management and coordination of event services and staff. Responsibilities include handling contracts, invoicing, budget administration, and leading a team of part-time ushers, student workers, and contracted service providers. The role also involves developing long-term operational strategies and renovation plans for the auditorium to ensure it remains a state-of-the-art venue meeting the evolving needs of the university and community. The Front of House Manager will often serve as the director on duty during events, providing a professional presence and solving any issues that arise promptly and effectively.
The position demands excellent interpersonal and communication skills to maintain robust relationships with university departments, community organizations, event promoters, and the general public. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and preferred if familiar with Adobe software, CRM platforms, and event management tools. Evening and weekend availability is essential, as the role requires supervision during performances and events. This position offers the opportunity to work within a prestigious academic environment, contributing significantly to SMU’s mission and enhancing the cultural and social life of the university community. Salary for this role is commensurate with experience and qualifications, reflecting the importance of the position in supporting SMU's Auxiliary Services and enhancing the overall campus experience.
