The Manager of Communications for Global Airports and Contact Centers is an integral member of American Airlines' Operations Communications team, which exists within the Global Engagement organization. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the company's internal and external communications to help build and protect American Airlines' brand and reputation. The manager will lead strategic communications efforts specifically focused on the Global Airports and Contact Center organizations, as well as their supporting teams such as training, policies and procedures, and planning. By crafting compelling narratives and strategic messaging, the manager helps the airline elevate operational performance and enhance customer experience.
This position is highly collaborative, working closely with leadership across Global Engagement and Operations teams located both at American Airlines' headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas, and globally. The selected candidate will be responsible for connecting the airline’s strategy with frontline workers and external stakeholders, ensuring messages are clear, engaging, and aligned with company goals. The role demands a strategic thinker comfortable with media relations, adept at team leadership, and skilled at creative writing. Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or relevant field
- 5 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate or agency setting
- Previous experience in corporate communications preferred
- Previous experience effectively leading teams, internal and external partners, connecting workgroups and teams to ensure strategies and impacts are clearly understood
- Demonstrated media relations experience with proven track record of sourcing and pitching stories
- Relentlessly hardworking with passion for thriving in high-volume environments
- Strong writing skills and media management abilities
- Critical thinker with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective collaborator with managers and department leadership

Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Serve as a strategic communications consultant and hands-on executor supporting the Operations organization including Global Airports, Contact Centers and the Customer and Operational Excellence team
- Develop comprehensive communications strategies for Global Airports, Contact Centers and Customer and Operational Excellence to shape messaging strategies for key initiatives that drive operational performance and improve the customer experience
- Help bring to life the airline’s commitment to safety, operational performance and customer experience by launching initiatives, amplifying team member stories and assisting leaders in communicating change
- Work with Operations Communications leaders and the broader Global Engagement team to build and execute strategic communications plans across multiple channels
- Collaborate closely with Operations leaders to deliver compelling and actionable messaging to frontline team members and drive accurate external media coverage
- Lead a team of communications specialists to translate complex operational policies into clear and engaging communications
- Explore and identify effective communication methods and channels to engage frontline workforce and improve consistent application of policies and procedures
- Create toolkits, talking points, and resources to equip Operations leaders for effective communication
- Support issues response and crisis communications during on-call duties
- Aggressively defend American’s reputation and monitor media coverage for accuracy
- Work in a fast paced 24/7 environment to support communications efforts
- Identify proactive external opportunities and draft content for multiple audiences and platforms
