Job Description

Summerlin Hospital is a prominent 496-bed healthcare facility based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Known for its comprehensive range of services, the hospital includes emergency services, a busy maternity department averaging 450 deliveries per month, a Children’s Medical Center featuring a NICU, pediatric ICU and a separate pediatric emergency room. Additionally, it offers advanced cardiovascular care, surgical services, women’s health, and oncology care. Recognized as an accredited Chest Pain with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) facility and a Primary Stroke Center, Summerlin Hospital has earned multiple awards from the American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines program. This level of specialized care and accreditation underscores the hospital’s commitment to delivering high-quality health services and exceptional patient outcomes.

Summerlin Hospital operates under the broader umbrella of the Valley Health System (VHS), which manages six hospitals across Las Vegas and Southern Nevada. VHS is dedicated to fostering exemplary patient care through clearly defined strategic goals, advanced technological systems, continuous performance improvement, and patient safety standards. The system embraces a collaborative practice model supported by evidence-based procedures, ongoing education, and development programs that facilitate recruitment and retention of talent. Owned and operated by a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, VHS benefits from comprehensive organizational support and participates in the UHS Service Excellence Program. This program emphasizes treating everyone as a guest, demonstrating professionalism and excellence, and practicing teamwork, creating a unique culture that empowers employees and promotes a superior patient care environment.

The Manager of Risk Management position is a pivotal leadership role within this structure. The successful candidate will support the Director of Risk Management in overseeing the hospital’s Patient Safety-Risk Management Program. This program is fundamental to maintaining and enhancing patient safety, mitigating risks, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The Manager will engage in proactive risk assessment, analysis, and the implementation of preventive strategies to reduce patient harm and improve clinical outcomes. They will play a key role in educating staff, fostering a culture of safety, and collaborating with various departments to integrate risk management practices across the organization.

This role requires a deep understanding of healthcare operations, regulatory requirements including The Joint Commission standards, Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services conditions of participation, and state-specific regulations such as those from the Nevada Department of Public Health. The Manager of Risk Management must be adept in using computer tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and hospital-specific software systems to manage data and generate reports effectively. Clinical or risk management experience in an acute care setting is highly valued, alongside certifications like the Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM), which is preferred.

Joining Summerlin Hospital and VHS means becoming part of a network that offers a challenging and rewarding work environment with strong career advancement prospects. Employees benefit from competitive compensation, comprehensive medical, dental, vision and prescription drug plans, generous paid time off, a 401(k) plan with company match, and access to discounted stock purchase programs. The organization also provides extensive education and training opportunities to ensure continuous professional growth. As a leader in healthcare services, Universal Health Services, Inc. supports diversity and inclusion, providing a respectful workplace with equal employment opportunities for all individuals regardless of background, reinforcing its commitment to mutual respect and ethical practices.
