Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Previous restaurant experience required
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must be ServSafe certified or become certified within 30 days
  • Proficient in computer programs including Excel and Word
  • Valid driver’s license and current car insurance
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Capable of exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally or frequently
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and control costs
  • Experience managing staff and scheduling
  • Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.

Job Qualifications

  • Some college preferred
  • Previous restaurant experience required
  • ServSafe certified or willing to obtain certification within 30 days of hire
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to listen and understand other points of view
  • Ability to influence others and gain commitment
  • Proficient in computer-based programs including Excel and Word
  • Understanding of P&L analysis, cash controls, labor analysis, yields and food cost calculations
  • Valid driver’s license and current car insurance
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Capable of exerting up to 60 pounds of force occasionally or frequently.

Job Duties

  • Ensure that guest service complies with Black Bear Diner standards
  • Ensure that food is prepped, cooked and plated according to company standards
  • Purchase all food from authorized sources, using company required procedures
  • Monitor utilities, supplies, and other cost categories to minimize impact
  • Analyze profits and loss statements and take appropriate corrective action
  • Perform management and administrative responsibilities as assigned by the Diner General Manager
  • Develop and post labor schedules in advance of work week start
  • Adjust labor to changes in sale volume
  • Ensure that food safety practices comply with Black Bear Diner standards as well as local Health Department regulations
  • Interview and hire team members, getting approval for promotions and changes in employee status
  • Process payroll accordingly
  • Maintain applicant tracking as per federal requirements
  • Assist in achieving financial objectives regarding sales, food cost, labor cost, and other controllable costs
  • Protect cash and all other company assets by adhering to company control procedures
  • Work on floor monitoring guest satisfaction, guiding staff, and filling in as needed during peak hours
  • Utilize a preventive maintenance system, ensuring adequate repair of buildings and equipment as needed
  • Establish and follow up on cleaning procedures to maintain company housekeeping standards
  • Ensure the diner is in compliance with all other regulatory agencies related to worker safety, alcoholic beverage sales, etc.
