The role of the Maitre D at KYU is critical in ensuring an exceptional front-of-house operation that supports the restaurant’s commitment to exemplary guest relations and service excellence. The Maitre D is responsible for managing guest interactions from the moment they arrive to the completion of their dining experience. Key responsibilities include welcoming guests warmly, managing reservations and seating arrangements, and overseeing the performance and coordination of front-of-house staff such as hosts and servers.

The ideal candidate will lead by example, setting a positive tone and pace on the floor, ensuring service standards are met consistently, and stepping in proactively to resolve any issues or inquiries that arise. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Lead and support the front-of-house team during service by setting the pace and tone on the floor
  • ensure consistent, high-quality guest service in alignment with KYU’s service standards
  • act as a point of contact on the floor for guest needs, questions, and service recovery
  • monitor guest flow, table progression, and service timing to support smooth operations
  • assist servers, bartenders, and support staff during peak service periods
  • communicate effectively with the kitchen and bar to support timely and accurate service
  • step in to resolve guest concerns professionally and escalate when necessary
  • maintain awareness of menu items, specials, and service expectations
  • uphold KYU’s culture, values, and hospitality standards through hands-on leadership
  • lead by example through professionalism, urgency, and attention to detail
  • support training and onboarding of front-of-house staff during service shifts
  • ensure the dining room remains clean, organized, and guest-ready throughout service
  • greet and welcome guests with a warm and professional demeanor
  • manage the reservation system, including booking, modifying, and canceling reservations
  • coordinate and oversee seating arrangements to ensure a smooth flow of guests and optimal table turnover
  • provide accurate wait time estimates and communicate effectively with guests regarding their seating status
  • supervise and guide the front-of-house staff, including hosts and servers, to ensure excellent service
  • handle guest inquiries, special requests, and concerns with professionalism and resolve issues promptly
  • monitor and manage the dining room environment to maintain high standards of cleanliness and ambiance
  • collaborate with the kitchen and bar staff to ensure timely and accurate delivery of food and beverages
  • assist in training new front-of-house staff on standard operating procedures and service expectations
  • maintain up-to-date knowledge of the restaurant’s menu, specials, and policies to provide accurate information to guests
  • prepare and review daily reports on guest feedback, service performance, and reservations
  • implement and enforce front-of-house policies and procedures to ensure consistency and quality of service
  • assist in managing and resolving conflicts or complaints in a constructive manner
