This position is for a Maintenance Technician located in Midland - San Angelo or the surrounding area, with candidates open to relocating to these locations. It is important to note that there is no housing camp provided for this role and location, making local residence or relocation essential. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the proper functionality and reliability of mechanical equipment that supports natural gas operations. This includes engines, compressors, pumps, valves, filtration systems, pressure relief devices, and other specialized equipment found in the plant or field.

Maintenance Technicians at Targa Resources are responsible for performing day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities, including routine inspections, repairs, and startup/shutdown procedures on field equipment such as pumps, compressors, and heaters. They utilize a variety of precision tools including hydraulic torque wrenches, laser alignment tools, dial indicators, and micrometers. The role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum of 1 year related work experience
  • basic knowledge of natural gas characteristics, engine and compressor operations and maintenance
  • ability to work a 5/2 M-F or 7/7 rotation schedule including overtime, weekends, holidays
  • valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

  • experience in maintenance and operations of gas compressors with engine drivers, glycol dehydrators, and gas plant processing preferred

Job Duties

  • Perform rounds and readings at compressor stations and/or gathering and processing plants
  • inspect vehicle work, spill prevention and countermeasures, fire, transformers, engine hours, tank levels, filter changes, and other equipment
  • perform routine startup/shutdown of field equipment such as pumps, compressors, heaters
  • complete work/hot work permits, lockout/tagout documentation, participate in tailgate sessions
  • create and complete work orders in Maximo
  • order parts and manage inventory
  • learn and understand Targa’s safety policies, job safety analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and business ethics policies
  • focus on optimization of stations and units by reviewing compressor dashboards and unit loading
  • plan and perform assignments in a safe manner utilizing proper tools, safety, and environmental precautions
  • collaborate with other departments for construction support and commissioning of new stations and units
  • assist with training new technicians
  • handle environmental compliance tasks at regulatory frequency
  • recognize equipment malfunctions and perform general maintenance and housekeeping
  • utilize TRUCE app for safe mobile device usage
  • field callouts alarms as needed
  • use hydraulic torque wrenches, laser alignment, dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision tools proficiently
  • train and perform major maintenance tasks on engine components as recommended by manufacturers
  • perform other duties as assigned
