Job Description

Sofar is a globally recognized live entertainment company that originated in a London flat in 2009. Over the years, it has evolved from a simple solution to a growing problem—the decline of the magic in live music—into an influential global movement. Sofar’s brand is centered on creating intimate and unique live experiences not only in music but also in comedy, dance, and other performance arts. Sofar’s unique approach blends world-class performances with a variety of unconventional venues ranging from private living rooms, gardens, rooftops, to extraordinary locations such as ski jumps, caves, boats, and hidden museum rooms. This approach ensures every Sofar event offers a deeply immersive experience where audiences engage fully with performances, using technology not as a distraction but as a means to deepen their connection with artists and the community.

With a history of spotlighting major performers like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Olivia Dean early in their careers, Sofar has a sterling reputation for discovering and empowering emerging talent. Their model includes comprehensive support for artists—handling booking, promotion, audience building, brand partnerships, and global media placements—thus providing a nurturing ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders.

The company’s work culture is fueled by a passion for music and live experiences; the team at Sofar is composed of devoted individuals who live and breathe entertainment, constantly seeking to uncover fresh talent and to craft memorable fan experiences worldwide.

The Role

Sofar is seeking a Freelance Local Producer to join its global network of entrepreneurial creators who shape the cultural landscape in their city. This hybrid role requires candidates to be based in the designated city and offers the flexibility of a freelance commission-based partnership rather than a traditional employment model. Freelance Local Producers are entrusted with great autonomy and ownership to develop, promote, and execute Sofar events locally while supported by the Global Communities team. The role blends event planning and curation, marketing and promotion, and event execution. It calls for someone with strong business instincts, excellent networks within local music, arts, and business communities, and a flair for creating exceptional and impactful pop-up experiences.

Responsibilities include strengthening Sofar’s brand on a local level by selling tickets and crafting marketing strategies tailored to the city. Producers will curate diverse lineups of artists and venues, oversee event staff to ensure top-tier hospitality, and manage the financial health of all events. The role also involves forging strategic relationships with local businesses for sponsorships and private events, building community partnerships with like-minded organizations, and collaborating with other local leaders to increase brand awareness through diverse experiences.

Ideal candidates bring 3-5 years of experience in live event curation, production, and promotions along with a robust local network. They possess a proven track record of selling event sponsorships or marketing activations and presenting compelling proposals to potential partners. Candidates are self-starters who embrace the challenge of driving cultural engagement while maintaining professionalism and excellent communication skills. The role demands proficient time management and autonomy but also values connection within the broader Sofar team.

Compensation for Freelance Local Producers is commission-based and varies depending on ticket pricing, show volume, and event success, ranging from approximately $100 to $500 or more per event. This position mainly requires availability during evenings and weekends to align with live event schedules.

Sofar fosters an inclusive and diverse work environment and encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply, even if their experience does not exactly match the job description. The company also utilizes artificial intelligence tools to assist hiring but emphasizes that final decisions are made by human recruiters. Overall, this role offers a unique opportunity for entrepreneurial-minded individuals passionate about music and creative event production to produce memorable and community-focused live experiences in their city.
