Job Description

The Read House is a distinguished hotel located in Chattanooga, Tennessee, known for blending historic elegance with contemporary comfort and sophistication. The hotel features multiple dining venues, including the fine-dining and award-winning Bridgeman's Chophouse, which has been recognized as a premier culinary destination in Chattanooga.

We are currently seeking a self-motivated and skilled Line Cook to join our culinary team at The Read House. This is a unique opportunity to work in a culinary environment that values craftsmanship, precision, and creativity. The successful candidate will primarily work in Bridgeman’s Chophouse and other dining outlets within the hotel, playing a vital role in preparing hot and cold food items that meet the highest standards of quality and presentation. As a Line Cook, you will be expected to harness your knowledge of grilling, frying, sautéing, and broiling to deliver dishes that delight guests consistently.

This role demands a strong commitment to sanitation and food safety protocols, as well as excellent organizational skills to maintain a tidy and efficient station. The appointed Line Cook will contribute to the creative process by suggesting daily specials and working collaboratively with the Sous Chef and executive culinary team to support banquet operations and overall kitchen excellence. Our ideal candidate will have between one to two years of experience in similar fast-paced culinary environments, showcasing proficiency in professional cooking techniques and equipment handling.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • One to two years cooking experience in a similar establishment
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and cooking methods
  • Ability to maintain high safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including days evenings weekends and holidays
  • Physical stamina to stand for long hours and lift heavy items
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • ServSafe certification preferred within 90 days

Job Qualifications

  • One to two years of cooking experience in a similar style establishment with the ability to handle high-volume production
  • Solid professional cooking and knife handling skills plus the ability to safely operate commercial production equipment
  • Strong attention to detail with a dedication to premier food and beverage presentation
  • Thorough understanding of sanitation and food handling procedures with a ServSafe certification preferred within 90 days
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a high-demand environment and perform well under pressure
  • Maintain punctual attendance with the ability to work days evenings weekends and holidays as business requires
  • Ability to stand for extended periods sometimes over 8 hours and frequently lift or move up to 30 to 50 pounds
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare hot and cold food items daily efficiently executing grilling frying sautéing and broiling techniques
  • Read and follow recipes production lists and food presentation specifications in a timely sanitary manner
  • Maintain a clean organized station and walk-in cooler ensuring exceptional safety and food handling practices
  • Suggest daily specials to the culinary leadership and assist the Sous Chef with banquet operations
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested by the Executive Chef Chef de Cuisine or Sous Chef
