The role of Cook at Living Joyfully is integral to maintaining the high standards of living and care the community promises. This full-time position offers an hourly wage ranging from $18.00 to $22.00, reflecting the company's commitment to rewarding skilled culinary professionals. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, storing, and cooking nutritious and high-quality meals tailored to meet the diverse dietary needs of residents. The Cook plays an essential part in delivering a superb dining experience that enhances residents' satisfaction and well-being. Responsibilities include daily food preparation following outlined menus, adapting recipes to accommodate special dietary requirements, and ensuring the aesthetic presentation of meals. Additionally, this role involves coordinating and participating in food service, monitoring portion control to align with residents' preferences while minimizing waste, and accurately recording chargeable meals for residents, guests, and catered events.

Collaboration with the Dietary Manager is key, as you will assist in menu planning, taking into account seasonal foods, vendor pricing, special events, and holidays. Procuring and properly handling food and supplies also falls within this role’s purview, ensuring all delivered foods are stored and labeled correctly for safety and quality assurance. Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitary kitchen environment compliant with health regulations is mandatory. Moreover, the Cook supports the training of other kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment. This role is ideal for an individual with a passion for culinary arts, strong attention to detail, and a dedication to contributing positively to community health through excellent food service. The position requires at least one year of cooking experience and a ServSafe certification, alongside a high school diploma or GED, emphasizing the importance of food safety and professional preparedness in this critical role.

Job Duties

  • Prepares food daily as outlined on the menus
  • altering or adapting recipes to accommodate special dietary needs of residents or to improve recipes
  • ensures attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving
  • coordinates and participates in serving food, including monitoring portion control to meet residents' requests and minimize waste
  • maintains an accurate record of chargeable meals (resident, guest and catered) and submits record to the office by the designated date each month
  • assists with menu planning
  • reviews and adjusts menus with Dietary Manager to accommodate foods in season, vendor sale prices, special events and holidays
  • assists in identifying food and supplies needed for the next week's menus and reports to the Dietary Manager
  • prepares meats for storage and portion control upon delivery
  • ensures proper handling, storage and labeling of all delivered foods and ingredients
  • maintains a clean, orderly, safe and sanitary kitchen environment
  • ensures compliance with any and all regulations
  • assists in training other kitchen staff in food preparation
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • comply with all policies and procedures and any updates
