Job Description

Torchy’s Tacos is a popular and fast-growing restaurant chain that began its journey in Austin, Texas, in 2006. Founded with a unique idea, a passionate executive chef, and initially operating out of a food trailer, Torchy’s has since expanded its presence to more than 130 locations across the United States. Known for its innovative and bold take on street tacos, Torchy’s focuses on delivering what they call "Damn Good" food, crafted fresh daily from scratch. This commitment to quality and creativity has made Torchy’s a beloved brand nationwide, attracting a diverse team dedicated to culinary excellence and exceptional customer service.

The company culture at Torchy’s places a strong emphasis not just on great food but also on a fun, team-oriented work environment where employees can grow professionally. They offer competitive wages ranging from $14.00 to $19.00 per hour based on experience, with pooled tips that increase total take-home pay, flexible scheduling, and a variety of benefits for full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off after certain tenure milestones. Additionally, Torchy’s supports its employees through its Family Foundation, which provides assistance in times of need or crisis.

The role of Line Cook at Torchy’s is essential to the daily operations and success of each restaurant. Line Cooks are considered the heart of the kitchen—responsible for preparing and cooking the high-quality, made-from-scratch food that Torchy’s prides itself on. This fast-paced, high-volume position requires versatility as cooks handle multiple preparation stations including fry, grill, sauté, steam, and taco assembly. Each station plays a crucial role: mastering the fry station ensures perfectly crispy fried items; operating the grill station requires cooking proteins to precise temperatures; managing the sauté station involves skillful handling of various ingredients to ensure flavorful dishes; steaming involves preparing dishes to maintain the ideal texture and taste; and taco assembly demands meticulous attention to meet the restaurant’s high standards and guest expectations.

Line Cooks are tasked with cooking and prepping meals according to Torchy’s recipes, maintaining quality control to ensure every dish meets the brand’s reputation for excellence, and keeping their workstations clean and organized to uphold food safety and sanitation standards. Team collaboration is key in this role, as cooks must coordinate with back-of-house team members to ensure timely and accurate preparation during busy service hours. They also assist with inventory management to set the kitchen up for success and operate efficiently with a sense of urgency during peak times while not compromising quality or presentation.

Torchy’s seeks candidates who meet state and local Food Handler’s certification requirements, preferably with prior experience, although it is not mandatory. The job requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand for extended periods, bend, stretch, and lift up to 40 pounds. Adaptability with varied work schedules and hours is also necessary, along with a strong commitment to serving guests promptly and cheerfully. This position not only offers competitive pay and tips but also a welcoming work environment with ample opportunities for personal and professional growth. Employees receive discounts on delicious food, access to exclusive event discounts, and comprehensive benefits, emphasizing why joining Torchy’s team is a rewarding career choice for anyone passionate about food and hospitality.
