The role of Line Cook at La Popular requires preparing all menu items according to established quality and timing standards while maintaining a clean and sanitary work station. The position is non-exempt and reports directly to the Kitchen Manager and indirectly to other management staff. This role is fundamental in upholding the standard of delicious, authentic food that La Popular is known for, ensuring that dishes are prepared exactly as specified, with precise ingredient measurements and efficient cooking processes. The Line Cook works closely with fellow kitchen staff, communicating effectively to coordinate preparation and plating duties. This includes tasks such as assembling and dismantling workstations, toasting bread and buns, cooking fries to order, and assisting in multiple cooking and prep stations when necessary. The ideal candidate is punctual, maintains a positive attitude, complies with company policies, and demonstrates professionalism in every interaction. Physical demands include prolonged standing and bending, handling hot and cold equipment, and working in a lively, sometimes noisy and physically demanding kitchen environment. The position is vital to the team’s success in delivering consistently excellent dishes that meet La Popular’s high standards.

Job Duties

  • execute all recipes to the letter, properly measure ingredients
  • prepare all items within La Popular's quality and cook time standards
  • place all items on appropriate plates according to verbal directions or written pivot points
  • prepare all plates for final presentation
  • toast buns/bread
  • cook french fries to order
  • keep station well stocked and sanitary
  • maintain a clean grill, free of debris
  • maintain clean and dry building
  • set up and operate grill, oven, broiler, fryer, and all other equipment used
  • verbally communicate with other line positions regarding the preparation of all items
  • assist on Salads, Sauté and Assembler positions, if needed
  • label, date, and rotate all prepped items in accordance with La Popular's shelf life specifications
  • read checks and respond to the verbal requests from other kitchen staff members
  • skim and clean fryers
  • filter and/or change shortening, as needed
  • assist Prep, Line or Dish machine functions, when needed
