Job Description
The position of Line Cook at Black Bear Diner is crucial to maintaining the high standards of food quality and customer satisfaction the diner is known for. The primary role of the Line Cook is to prepare and cook food items according to the diner’s established procedures and standards to ensure consistent taste and presentation. Job Requirements
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, reaching and climbing
- Must comply with company standards regarding uniform and appearance
- Ability to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel
- Must be able to work in a hot, noisy and crowded kitchen environment
- Must list previous employment information to be considered
Job Qualifications
- Previous experience as a line cook or similar kitchen role preferred
- Knowledge of food safety standards and proper kitchen safety procedures
- Ability to follow recipes and portion controls accurately
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with team members and supervisors
- Ability to remain calm and maintain patience in a fast-paced and high-pressure kitchen environment
- Good sense of humor and enthusiasm for working in a team setting
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Job Duties
- Consistently prepare, cook, plate and finish all food items according to Black Bear Diner procedures and standards
- Comply with all food safety requirements such as checking and maintaining temperature, dating and labeling products, rotating products so that oldest is used first
- Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period
- Portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work station area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, burners, ovens and refrigeration equipment
- Handle, store and rotate all products properly
- Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
- Complete side work for station and shift
- Close the kitchen correctly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations
- Assist others in closing stations and the kitchen
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the manager-on-duty
- Be available to perform other related duties and fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor
