The Lead Production Technician role at Air Liquide Advanced Materials in Fremont offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced chemical process operator to step into a leadership position within a fast-paced and technically sophisticated manufacturing environment. This role is essential to daily plant operations, involving coordination of shift activities, hands-on operation and troubleshooting of chemical processes, and providing technical expertise to ensure product quality and operational efficiency. The Lead oversees the team during shifts, leads communication through meetings, supports new team member integration, and maintains strict adherence to environmental, safety, and health standards. Working rotating 12-hour shifts including days, nights, and weekends, the successful candidate will be a pivotal contributor to achieving production goals while fostering a collaborative team environment.

This position pays between $34 and $46 per hour plus an annual bonus and requires up to 5% travel based on business needs. The Lead Production Technician is also expected to participate actively in the emergency response team, including wearing full face respirators and specialized protective equipment during critical incidents. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum 3 years experience in chemical process operations
  • qualified on chemical process for at least one year
  • ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts including days, nights and weekends
  • must remain clean shaven to wear tight fitting respirator
  • completed Incident Commander ICS200 training
  • completion of Hazmat technician level training
  • ability to medically pass respiratory and physical fitness tests
  • physical ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • proficiency with basic computer applications
  • strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • ability to perform root cause analysis and problem solving
  • commitment to safety and environmental standards compliance
  • willingness to participate in emergency response activities and wear full protective gear
  • capable of rolling cylinders safely

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 or more years of experience in chemical process operations environment
  • qualified on process for minimum one year
  • good verbal and written communication skills
  • proficiency with basic computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs
  • performance-based leadership skill set
  • Incident Commander Training ICS200 minimum
  • demonstrated ability to think and plan ahead and prepare action plans
  • demonstrated ability to troubleshoot problems
  • understanding of plant fire systems and alarms
  • completed Hazmat technician level training from a certified body
  • understanding of IMS and plant gas monitoring system
  • understanding of plant specific cylinder handling programs PF, ERP, Cylinder Handling, PM
  • fitness for duty including ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • ability to medically pass respiratory and physical tests to wear full face respirator
  • effective verbal and written communication in English

Job Duties

  • Coordinates shift activities to meet production schedule
  • performs shift rounds multiple times per shift to ensure execution of plans
  • creates an environment that fosters team and individual empowerment
  • leads start of shift meetings to communicate priorities and team communications
  • provides on-shift technical and process subject matter expertise
  • enhances shift skills and knowledge through coaching on process and equipment
  • acts as on-shift resource for quality issues
  • works with production supervisor to facilitate integration of new shift team members and establish performance measurement KPIs
  • enforces work processes and instructions compliance
  • ensures environmental, safety and health standards and regulations are met or exceeded
  • signs work permits
  • uses IMS as a guide for work activities
  • coaches team members on value assessment of tasks and service requests and facilitates first line conflict resolution
  • focuses on quality related opportunities
  • participates in root cause or failure analysis using Sologic RCI methodology
  • ensures maintenance work requests are scheduled and completed
  • aligns startup and shutdown tasks with plant operations
  • interacts with sales and operations planning process
  • balances quality, productivity, manpower, cost, safety and morale
  • maintains proper inventory levels of product and raw materials
  • acts as first responder for equipment, process and production issues
  • participates on emergency response team including ER entry
  • prepares end of shift reports
  • cross-trained on approved functions
  • initiates activities that contribute to achieving goals and defect-free results
  • researches and incorporates process improvements
  • works rotating shifts including days, nights and weekends
  • maintains clean-shaven status to wear respirators
  • wears full face tight fitting respirator and Level A ER suit or supplied air respirators
  • completes all required training
  • capable of rolling cylinders
  • physically fit to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
