This particular role is the Lead Kitchen Operations Assistant for the Catalyst Emergency Supportive Housing Program, a critical position responsible for delivering efficient, safe, and high-quality food services to residents. The role focuses on managing day-to-day kitchen operations, contributing to menu planning, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The Lead Kitchen Operations Assistant plays an essential part in creating a supportive environment that not only meets the nutritional needs of residents but also promotes their well-being through balanced and welcoming meal services.

The Lead Kitchen Operations Assistant will support and develop comprehensive food service operations delivering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options tailored to the diverse needs of program participants. The position requires an individual with solid experience in food service management within institutional or hospitality settings, who can skillfully manage food inventory, maintain kitchen equipment, and enforce sanitation protocols in compliance with Washington State and Spokane County regulations. Additionally, the role demands close collaboration with program staff to ensure operational goals align with the mission of Catholic Charities.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum five years of institutional cooking or hospitality experience
  • Food handler's permit
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass background checks
  • Knowledge of Washington state and Spokane county food health codes
  • Ability to operate standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Good physical stamina including ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, and stoop
  • Strong computer skills with word processing, spreadsheets, and internet
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly
  • Mandatory reporter training and compliance
  • Demonstrated dependability and adaptability
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Working knowledge of math for recipe adjustments and inventory management

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree
  • Minimum five years of experience in institutional cooking or equivalent hospitality industry experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal food regulations, health guidelines, safety and sanitation standards
  • Ability to adapt recipes for large groups
  • Food handler's permit
  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of applicable background checks
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and internet software
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Manage and assess food service goals and execution of action plans to meet residents' nutritional needs
  • Support convenience food and snacking operations including vending, token store, and missed meal programs
  • Plan weekly menus and forecast food and equipment needs monitoring enrollment and meal utilization
  • Ensure food preparation and sanitation comply with Washington State and Spokane County health codes
  • Develop food service operations, safety, and equipment maintenance protocols with annual policy audits
  • Manage safe operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment and communicate repair costs
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and security of client-protected health information per HIPAA
  • Utilize communication tools and database practices as directed by supervisor
  • Report suspected abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter
  • Uphold the tenets of Catholic social teaching and doctrine
  • Collaborate as a team member to achieve productivity and performance outcomes
  • Support mission and core values of Catholic Charities
  • Oversee logistics of deliveries and pickups of all donations
