Job Description
Core-Mark is a leading distributor in the convenience retail industry, known for its expansive and fresh product solutions across North America. As the largest and most comprehensive marketer of consumer goods in the US and Canada, Core-Mark provides a full range of products, programs, and services tailored specifically for convenience operators. Emphasizing empowerment for customers, employees, and communities, Core-Mark is committed to maintaining industry leadership through innovation, safety, and inclusivity. We pride ourselves on fostering a workplace culture that celebrates rewards, recognition, and respect, ensuring every team member feels supported in their role.
The Lead Driver position at Core-Mark plays a pivotal role in our transportation operations, particularly in supporting and guiding assigned driver teams at remote shuttle yard locations. This role involves a combination of hands-on driving responsibilities, overseeing scheduling, training, and solving delivery issues. As a Lead Driver, you will operate tractor-trailers or straight trucks across intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries of various food and food-related products. Completing deliveries safely and in compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company policies is a top priority.
In addition to driving, the Lead Driver is integral in maintaining day-to-day driver team efficiency through administrative duties such as managing work schedules, conducting safety checks, onboarding new hires, and conducting preferred work method evaluations. This role demands excellent communication skills, as it requires frequent professional interaction with customers, vendors, and coworkers to ensure quality service and uphold preferred work practices.
The position offers competitive pay ranging between $30.00 to $33.00 per hour based on experience, with a Monday through Friday schedule and start times between 3AM and 5AM. Core-Mark values growth opportunities and provides day one health and wellness benefits, employee stock purchase plans, 401K employer matching, education assistance, paid time off, and more for its workforce.
As a Lead Driver, your key responsibilities will include performing all required pre and post-trip safety inspections to guarantee compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards, reporting any needed repairs or hazards immediately. You will oversee the loading and securing of freight, verify product counts against invoices, complete all necessary delivery documentation, and ensure customer deliveries are executed on schedule. Handling returns, damage control, and managing the security of equipment and freight are also essential duties. Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the tractor, trailers, and loading dock area is important to uphold a safe work environment.
Core-Mark is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. The company prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status or any other protected characteristic. Join a company that not only delivers goods but also delivers a commitment to its people and communities with integrity and pride.
