Job Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to stand or walk 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday
- Capability for single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling hand movements
- Ability to bend, twist, squat, and reach
- Exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- Comfortable working in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Must work in wet and dry conditions
- Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to use knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery
- May require use of ladders
Job Qualifications
- 14+ months retail experience
- Thorough product, production, and equipment knowledge for bakery items including scratch bread
- Ability to follow production schedules and prioritize tasks
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot bread production issues
- Basic math skills for recipe conversions
- Ability to deliver information clearly and respectfully
- Passionate about natural foods and Whole Foods Market mission
- Understanding of and compliance with quality goals
- Basic Microsoft Excel skills
Job Duties
- Mixes, divides, shapes, proofs, and bakes bread and other bakery products to approved Whole Foods Market specifications
- Maintains accurate mix times, temperature logs, and production records
- Develops, adjusts, and communicates daily production schedules with other bakers and team
- Ensures consistency of daily production in terms of quantity and quality of finished products
- Routinely assesses production outcomes to maintain Enterprise scratch bread program quality
- Prepares, packages, weighs, and prices products for sale
- Monitors product quality and freshness and ensures proper product rotation
- Models and delivers outstanding customer service
- Mentors, coaches, and trains other bakers on proper execution of bread and bakery programs
- Works all scheduled shifts and attends required trainings and meetings
- Provides excellent customer service using suggestive selling techniques
- Answers phones and pages promptly and courteously
- Maximizes sales potential through proper prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising of product
- Follows and ensures compliance with Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices
- Maintains a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment and equipment
- Performs opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned
- Reports safety hazards and violations immediately
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership
- Utilizes proper production tools and reporting to maximize sales and reduce shrink
- Supports training and onboarding of bakers within home store and other locations
