Job Description
The California School Employees Association (CSEA) is a long-established labor union representing over 250,000 classified school employees across more than 750 school districts in California. Founded in 1927, this organization has grown to become the largest classified school employee union within the AFL-CIO. CSEA members include a diverse group of school workers such as para-educators, administrative staff, food service workers, bus drivers, nurses, and skilled personnel in grounds, maintenance, and operations. The association is staunchly committed to advocating for the rights, dignity, and welfare of working people and continually supports comprehensive benefits, pensions, and protections for its members. CSEA also places a strong emphasis on promoting affordable healthcare and financial security for working families, reflecting its broader mission to improve the lives of school employees and the communities they serve. As a critical player within California's educational landscape, CSEA has maintained stability and viability for nearly a century, positioning itself as a key defender and influencer in labor relations within the education sector.
We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Labor Relations Representative (LRR) based out of our Field Office in Citrus Heights, CA. In this pivotal role, the LRR will serve as a vital liaison between the union and its members, driving efforts to recruit, train, and develop active membership. The representative will be responsible for leading, organizing, and mobilizing members to engage in political action and union advocacy, thereby acting as their strongest advocate. Key responsibilities include negotiating contracts, providing leadership to bargainers and committees involved in collective bargaining, and representing members during hearings. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with excellent communication skills who can inspire member participation and foster the growth of member leaders, chapter officers, and stewards. This position demands an individual who can work effectively with diverse groups, demonstrate sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and exhibit resilience and composure under pressure. Additionally, the LRR must balance the demands of the role with personal well-being, embodying the values and culture of the CSEA. Our offer includes a competitive salary range of $84,409 to $122,789 with a generous car allowance, along with 19 paid holidays, starting with 3 weeks of vacation increasing to 5 weeks after 7 years, comprehensive medical benefits for employees and their families, life insurance, and pension plans. This is an exempt, in-person position that requires weekend and evening work, occasional overnight travel, and a valid California driver’s license. By joining CSEA, you become part of a dedicated team striving to empower classified school employees and strengthen public education across California.
