The role of Utility Worker I, reporting directly to the Supervisor Steward, is integral to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and organization of the kitchen and dining facilities. This position is focused on the cleaning and sanitization of dinnerware such as china, glasses, silverware, and smallware, as well as kitchen equipment including stoves, ovens, grills, fryers, refrigerators, tables, and stainless steel surfaces. The Utility Worker I ensures that all work areas comply with health and safety regulations and food safety guidelines, thereby supporting a hygienic and safe environment for food preparation and service. Additionally, this role involves maintaining the cleanliness of the restaurant dining areas and utensils, contributing directly to the overall guest experience.
This position demands reliability, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic. Utility Worker I must be able to operate cleaning machinery, manage waste disposal, and assist with food preparation and various special projects when required. The ability to work efficiently under pressure, communicate effectively with team members and guests, and demonstrate a dedication to the team’s best in class culture is essential. Job Requirements
- At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, obtain and maintain a gaming license
- Must obtain and maintain a Food Handlers Card
- No driving responsibilities required
- Ability to work evening, weekend, and holiday shifts
- Strength to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
- Must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance
- Willingness to work in exposure to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
Job Qualifications
- Minimum three months of related experience and/or training preferred
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to provide friendly and efficient service to guests and team members
- Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure
Job Duties
- Clean and sanitize china, glassware, flatware, and smallware following established procedures
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain kitchen equipment and stainless-steel surfaces
- Sweep, brush, and mop kitchen floors and clean walls, ceiling tiles, light fixtures, and air vents
- Clean dish machines and sinks throughout shifts
- Sort and remove trash and garbage to designated containers
- Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas
- Set up dining area for service and clean tables, counters, and floors
- Assist in setup, service, and breakdown of special functions
- Remove soiled linen and assist in food preparation and special projects
- Support team members and management in daily operations
