The Kitchen Supervisor position at Departure Restaurant + Lounge is a critical role responsible for maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and efficiency within the kitchen. This leadership role involves supervising the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring smooth production, preparation, and presentation of all menu items for both the restaurant and room service. The Kitchen Supervisor is dedicated to upholding sanitary conditions that comply with all relevant regulations, managing food and labor costs strategically to maximize profitability while maintaining quality. The role requires effective management of the kitchen staff, fostering a safe and motivated work environment through training, development, coaching, and appropriate discipline. The Kitchen Supervisor also oversees the maintenance and sanitation processes to meet and exceed federal, state, corporate, and franchise health and safety standards. Promoting the Accident Prevention Program and minimizing liabilities are additional responsibilities. This position demands a combination of culinary expertise, leadership skills, and operational oversight to ensure the vibrant culinary vision of Departure is consistently realized. With a focus on advanced knowledge of food management principles, experiential leadership of kitchen teams, and clear communication skills, the Kitchen Supervisor plays a pivotal role in sustaining the restaurant's reputation as a premier dining destination in Portland's competitive food scene. Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • One to two years of related work experience
  • Advanced knowledge of food management principles and practices
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to hear, see and communicate moderately
  • Capacity to read, write and analyze financial data
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and move throughout the kitchen environment for extended periods
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment
  • Ability to train, develop and manage kitchen staff

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent
  • One to two years of experience in a related position within the food service industry
  • Advanced knowledge of food profession principles and practices
  • Strong management and leadership skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read, write and analyze budgets
  • Excellent vision and hearing for safety
  • Moderate speech communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and multi-task effectively

Job Duties

  • Supervise the daily production, preparation and presentation of all food for the kitchen to ensure a quality, consistent product is produced which conforms to all franchise standards
  • Supervise human resources in the production and preparation areas of the kitchen in order to attract, retain and motivate the employees while providing a safe work environment
  • Train, develop, empower, coach and counsel staff, recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate
  • Schedule and supervise the maintenance/sanitation of the kitchen, equipment and related areas to ensure a healthy, safe work environment which meets/exceeds federal, state, corporate and franchise standards and regulations
  • Assist in monitoring and control all labor and food costs
  • Promote the Accident Prevention Program to minimize liabilities and related expenses
  • Monitor food and labor costs
