As a Kitchen Steward, your primary responsibilities will include preserving the cleanliness and organization of kitchen and food preparation areas, efficiently operating commercial dishwashing and pot-washing machinery, and sanitizing all dishware and kitchen equipment to ensure a hygienic cooking environment. You will assist with inventory management through receiving and storing deliveries while adhering to food safety and storage protocols. Job Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
- Frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive tasks
- Comfortable working in environments with heat, steam, water, cleaning chemicals, and commercial kitchen equipment
- Must be available to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on business needs
Job Qualifications
- Previous experience as a kitchen steward, dishwasher, or in a commercial kitchen is preferred but not required
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the culinary team
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, sanitation practices, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals is preferred
- Must follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
- Ability to use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Professional appearance and commitment to excellent hospitality standards
Job Duties
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of all kitchen, dishwashing, and food preparation areas
- Operate commercial dishwashing and pot-washing equipment safely and efficiently
- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, glassware, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment
- Ensure kitchen floors, drains, walls, shelving, workstations, walk-in coolers, and storage areas remain clean and sanitary throughout each shift
- Remove trash and recycling regularly while maintaining clean waste disposal areas
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing deliveries following proper food safety and storage procedures
- Maintain adequate supplies of clean dishes, cookware, and utensils for the culinary team
- Support cooks and kitchen staff with general cleaning and operational needs during service
- Follow all local health department regulations, food safety standards, and hotel sanitation procedures
- Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or supply shortages to management promptly
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Food & Beverage and Culinary teams
