Job Description
Hokkaido Ramen Santouka is a renowned Japanese restaurant brand known for its authentic Hokkaido-style ramen and exceptional dining experience. Originating from Japan, Santouka has expanded internationally, gaining a reputation for delivering high-quality ingredients, meticulous preparation, and warm hospitality to every guest. The brand is committed to creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere where customers can enjoy traditional ramen flavors made fresh daily with care and precision. The Chicago West Loop location will be Santouka's first downtown Chicago restaurant, situated in a lively neighborhood full of culinary innovation and diverse food lovers. This new establishment aims to bring an authentic taste of Japan to Chicago residents and visitors alike, combining classic techniques with a hospitable, fast-paced service environment.
We are currently seeking Kitchen Team Members to join the opening team at Hokkaido Ramen Santouka's new downtown Chicago location, anticipated to open between mid-September and early October 2026. This part-time position offers an exciting chance to be among the founding members of the kitchen staff, playing an integral role in setting up the kitchen operations, cultivating team culture, and contributing to an exceptional guest experience. As a Kitchen Team Member, you will engage in a variety of back-of-house tasks including ingredient preparation, cooking, dishwashing, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards. The role requires individuals who are energetic, reliable, and passionate about working with food in a team-oriented setting.
The position pays between $18.00 and $24.00 per hour and includes paid training shifts prior to the official opening, providing thorough preparation for new team members. Working at Santouka will give you the opportunity to work in a fast-paced but organized environment where attention to detail and food quality are paramount. You will have the chance to learn authentic Japanese ramen preparation techniques and follow standardized recipes that ensure consistency and uphold the brand's high culinary standards. The job also involves standing for extended periods, working in a hot kitchen environment, lifting up to 40-50 pounds, and performing repetitive tasks such as cutting, mixing, washing, and cleaning.
Santouka values a positive work environment where clear communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are essential. Staff members are expected to keep commitments, remain punctual, and adapt to dynamic kitchen conditions. This role is ideal for those interested in gaining experience in the culinary industry, especially if you enjoy being active, organized, and connected to a collaborative team. Although previous experience in Japanese cuisine or ramen preparation is a plus, it is not mandatory, and basic English communication skills will support smooth daily operations.
