Job Description
Greeley-Evans School District 6 is a well-established public school district located in Greeley, Colorado. Known for its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive educational environment, the district serves a dynamic community and prioritizes the holistic development of its students. The district offers a wide range of educational services and support programs, emphasizing equity, access, and community engagement. Nutrition Services is a key department within the district, dedicated to providing nutritious, high-quality meals to students across various schools, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
The Nutrition Services Nutrition Kitchen Manager in Training (KM1) position is a non-exempt role that plays an essential part in the successful operation of the district’s school nutrition programs. With a salary starting at $21.75 per hour and potential increases up to $34.85 per hour based on experience, this position offers a competitive hourly wage and a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The role operates on a contract basis for the 2026-2027 school year, encompassing 173 workdays.
As a Kitchen Manager in Training, you will be responsible for a balanced mixture of supervisory and operational tasks integral to the preparation and presentation of school meals. You will actively oversee food preparation and service to students and staff, ensuring compliance with USDA and health department standards. This role requires managing back-of-the-house operations such as inventory control, ordering supplies, food production reporting, point of sale management, and staffing oversight. You will also provide direct supervision, training, and evaluation of kitchen employees to maintain optimal kitchen productivity and meal service efficiency. Regular communication with the Nutrition Area Supervisor and other school stakeholders is important to foster positive relationships and support the overall nutrition program goals.
Success in this role demands strong leadership ability, an understanding of large-scale food preparation, and an unwavering commitment to food safety and sanitation standards. The KM1 position serves as a vital leadership stepping stone, where acquiring competencies within the first calendar year of service qualifies you for promotion to Kitchen Manager II. Within 60 days of appointment, candidates must obtain Certified Food Protection Manager certification, which underlines the role’s emphasis on safe food handling practices.
Working in this position involves managing kitchen staff up to six employees and ensuring a positive, collaborative work environment while addressing and resolving conflicts promptly. The physical work environment includes exposure to hot and cold temperatures, moving machinery, chemical sanitizers, and sharp kitchen equipment, requiring vigilance, safety awareness, and physical stamina.
By joining Greeley-Evans School District 6 Nutrition Services as a Kitchen Manager in Training, you will contribute directly to providing healthy and nutritious meals that support student learning and well-being. The position not only offers a chance to impact student health positively but also opportunities for professional growth within an educational setting that values diversity, inclusion, and employee well-being.
