Job Description

Mamahuhu is a culinary establishment rooted in the belief that food is a powerful connector of people, cultures, and communities. Specializing in Chinese-American cuisine, a unique food tradition that originated in China and beautifully evolved in America, Mamahuhu embraces the blending of cultural influences to create meals that are not only delicious but also nourishing and thoughtful. The restaurant celebrates the joyful moments shared around the table, reflecting a deep respect for tradition while innovating with care and quality.

Founded by a team with extensive experience that spans continents and culinary styles, Mamahuhu's leadership includes Brandon Jew from Mister Jiu's in San Francisco's Chinatown, alongside Anmao Sun and Ben Moore of Hunter Gatherer, a farm-to-table group in Shanghai. This diverse background brings together fine dining expertise and practical fast casual knowledge, creating a unique restaurant atmosphere focused on sustainability, quality sourcing of ingredients, and a commitment to community engagement. Mamahuhu operates with a mission to foster happier and healthier communities by sharing the rich food legacy of Chinese-American cuisine.

The current opportunity is for a full-time Kitchen Manager at the Noe Valley location in San Francisco. This hands-on leadership role requires daily engagement in kitchen operations—from directly participating in food preparation to mentoring and coaching kitchen staff. Unlike managerial roles that are removed from day-to-day tasks, this position demands active involvement in maintaining high operational standards and food quality.

The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for building and nurturing a supportive and high-performing back-of-house team while ensuring consistent delivery of excellent food quality that aligns with the brand's standards. The restaurant is casual and counter-service, with an emphasis on cultivating a positive culture and operational excellence rather than focusing solely on culinary innovation. Success will be measured by how well the manager fosters teamwork, improves systems continuously, and meets performance and quality goals collaboratively established with upper management.

The role also offers a competitive starting salary of $75,000 per year, with the possibility of quarterly bonuses. Benefits include comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a wellness and fitness stipend, paid vacation, unlimited sick days, and employee meals during shifts. Mamahuhu values a work environment that supports long-term career growth and personal well-being, reflected in their flexible scheduling and upbeat workplace culture.

Interested candidates should be passionate about food's role in community bonding and excited to contribute to a growing restaurant that honors traditional culinary roots while building a sustainable future. The Kitchen Manager will play a vital part in ensuring all BOH operations—from food preparation and quality control to inventory and team development—run smoothly and efficiently. This position suits individuals who are proactive, leadership-driven, and ready to take ownership of their kitchen environment, driving continuous improvement rather than simply maintaining existing procedures.
