Job Description

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) is a renowned casual dining restaurant chain that has been serving innovative, hearth-baked pizzas and a variety of creative dishes since its founding in 1985. Established by former federal prosecutors Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, CPK quickly made its mark by combining California creativity with fresh ingredients to revolutionize the pizza scene alongside iconic styles from Chicago and New York. Known for signature dishes such as The Original BBQ Chicken, California Club, and Thai Chicken, the company prides itself on delivering quality and unique flavor experiences in a lively, open kitchen environment. With a passionate workforce driven by the ROCKS philosophy – Respect, Opportunity, Communication, Kindness, and Service – CPK fosters a positive workplace culture where employees are encouraged to bring their authentic selves to work and inspire others.

The role at CPK is a pivotal position within the back-of-house team focused on kitchen management. The position demands overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen to ensure smooth coordination among food preparation, cooking, and plating, maintaining optimal workflows especially during peak hours. This role also involves cultivating a people-first leadership approach, inspiring and developing team members to achieve their best and contribute to a culture that promotes growth and excellence. As a kitchen manager, you will be responsible for building and sustaining a top-performing team centered on hospitality and culinary execution. You will actively participate in developing talent through cross-training, motivating your staff to reach their full potential, and supporting their career progression.

Financial management is a critical component of the role, including managing the restaurant's profit and loss (P&L) statements, forecasting, adjusting labor costs, monitoring portion control, preparing budgets, and analyzing financial variances to meet targets. Effective communication—both verbal and written—is essential for interacting with employees, guests, suppliers, and senior management, with proficiency in Spanish considered a plus. Safety and sanitation are paramount; you will establish and enforce high standards ensuring a safe and healthy kitchen environment.

CPK offers competitive compensation accompanied by an extensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance. There is also a unique employee assistance program called the Kindness Fund, designed to support team members facing life challenges. Additional perks include an eight-week comprehensive training program featuring various learning methods such as online, book-based, and hands-on instruction. Employees enjoy a one-of-a-kind company culture marked by passion and opportunity for growth, promoted through CPK's exclusive electronic learning platform, "The Proof." Managers receive meals during shifts and a Management Dine-Out card for meals with family and friends. CPK champions internal promotions, giving employees ample opportunities to develop their careers within the organization.

Working at CPK means joining a diverse, inclusive workplace that values respect and kindness. The position requires stamina for physical demands, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 40 pounds, and entails exposure to moderate noise and temperature levels. This is a role for enthusiastic individuals passionate about culinary arts, hospitality, and delivering exceptional guest experience. You will be part of a legacy brand that continues to innovate and inspire in the foodservice industry. If you are ready to be bold, be epic, and be yourself, CPK offers the platform and support to thrive and grow your professional journey.
