Job Description
Retreat Gastropub is a modern American pub located in St. Louis's Central West End. Established in 2015, this locally-owned small business has built a reputation for offering upscale made-from-scratch American cuisine paired with award-winning craft cocktails. The gastropub prides itself on combining a rustic touch with a contemporary dining experience, featuring an extensive craft beer selection and a commitment to quality and sustainability as a Green Dining Alliance affiliated restaurant. Retreat Gastropub emphasizes a welcoming and respectful work culture where every member of the team is valued and treated with respect, beginning with the management staff. This dedication to both quality food and a supportive environment creates not only a popular destination for guests but also an excellent workplace for industry professionals seeking to grow their skills in a busy, high-volume setting.
We are currently seeking a passionate, talented, and hardworking Kitchen Manager to join our team. This leadership role is integral to maintaining and elevating the high standards of food quality and service at Retreat Gastropub. The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for assisting in all facets of daily kitchen operations, including preparation and production, cooking, expediting orders, managing and training kitchen staff, and developing new and improved recipes. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a high-volume, high-quality kitchen environment and possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to food safety and cleanliness.
The role demands a hands-on approach, requiring the Kitchen Manager to execute workstations confidently, oversee food preparation during busy service times, coordinate communication between stations, and ensure timely and proper food delivery. Additionally, the position involves administrative responsibilities such as ordering inventory, managing food costing and waste, scheduling and hiring staff, monitoring labor, and maintaining rigorous food safety standards. This fast-paced, demanding job requires flexibility, resourcefulness, and excellent problem-solving skills along with a positive attitude and the ability to foster a collaborative and respectful work environment.
The position offers a competitive annual salary ranging from $60,000 to $70,000, along with bonus pay and comprehensive health insurance benefits. Employees receive guaranteed two days off per week, paid vacation and sick leave, and holidays off, supporting a healthy work-life balance. Working at Retreat Gastropub provides the opportunity to be part of a dedicated team invested in creating an exceptional dining experience while contributing to a sustainable and community-oriented establishment. If you are a motivated leader with culinary expertise eager to join a dynamic and growing gastropub, this Kitchen Manager position offers a fulfilling and challenging career path.
