Retreat Gastropub is located in St. Louis's Central West End, inside the 6 North building at the corner of Sarah and Laclede. It is situated near the Cortex district of bioscience and technology research, the historic Central West End, and the neighborhoods of The Grove and Botanical Heights.

Atmosphere and Beverage Program

The gastropub offers a comfortable atmosphere combining a flavorful food menu with a focus on craft cocktails and craft beer. The beverage program, led by Tim Wiggins, features a seasonally rotating menu of spirit-forward cocktails, craft beer, and wine.

The cocktail menu showcases primarily aged spirits, including classic cocktails and original creations made with fresh, quality products such as house-made cold-pressed juices, syrups, shrubs, and tinctures.

Food Menu

The food menu takes a modern approach to pub fare, with hot and cold small plates, burgers, sandwiches, and entrées.

A large portion of the dining menu is vegetarian-friendly, with most options available vegan. Only a few items cannot be made gluten-free. The kitchen sources as many products as possible locally or from locally based suppliers.

Sustainability Commitment

Retreat Gastropub is committed to sustainability and waste reduction as a member of the Green Dining Alliance. They strive for better waste reduction, eco-friendly procurement, water conservation, and more.

Their latest audit received a four out of five-star rating for efforts such as using veggie scraps in vegetable stock and repurposing beef fat scraps into tallow butter and stock for beef-related dishes.

Ownership and Legacy

In December 2023, longtime employees Jennifer Anderson and Sydney Caldwell became the new owners, taking over from founder Travis Howard. Both have been with the establishment for several years, with Anderson starting as a server in 2016 and Caldwell joining in 2018 as a bar manager.

They are committed to continuing the legacy of the gastropub and keeping it going.
