Job Description
Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. (NYSE: CMG) is a well-known fast-casual restaurant chain committed to cultivating a better world by serving responsibly sourced, classically cooked, real food made with wholesome ingredients without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Founded with a mission to revolutionize the fast-food industry, Chipotle stands out by providing high-quality food quickly while maintaining a focus on sustainability, ethical sourcing, and ingredient integrity. The company operates restaurants across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, owning and operating all of its locations in North America and Europe—a unique model in the fast-food sector. Chipotle is a leader and innovator in the food industry, recognized for blending convenience with quality, technology-driven practices, and a strong commitment to social responsibility.
At Chipotle, employees are valued as integral parts of the team, contributing to the brand's goal of making better food accessible to everyone. With a focus on continuous learning and evolution, the company cultivates a supportive work environment that encourages growth, teamwork, and excellent customer experiences.
The role of Kitchen Leader is a key position within Chipotle's team, designed not only to maintain food quality and safety but also to promote leadership development among crew members. Kitchen Leaders learn to prepare and cook menu items like grilled meats and sautéed vegetables while ensuring every dish meets Chipotle's high standards for taste. Beyond cooking duties, Kitchen Leaders are responsible for managing kitchen inventory, monitoring food waste, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen space. They act as role models and trainers, supporting crew members to develop their skills and potentially become future Kitchen Leaders themselves.
The Kitchen Leader works collaboratively with both back-of-house and front-of-house team members to foster a strong team dynamic, streamline kitchen operations, and enhance overall customer satisfaction. They also handle equipment maintenance, ensure safety compliance to prevent injuries or accidents, and manage inventory rotation using standardized procedures like FIFO and Material Safety Data Sheets. This role requires constant engagement on the kitchen floor, multitasking to meet station goals efficiently while fostering a positive and productive work environment.
With opportunities for advancement—80 percent of managers originally start as crew—Chipotle offers a clear path for career growth alongside competitive pay. Employees enjoy benefits such as tuition assistance covering up to $5,250 per year or full coverage for select degrees, free meals, medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, holiday closures, digital tips, and a values-driven workplace committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Chipotle’s commitment to fair employment practices and supporting employees with disabilities through reasonable accommodations underscores its people-first culture.
Choosing a career as a Kitchen Leader at Chipotle means joining a company dedicated to redefining fast food by prioritizing quality, integrity, and sustainability while nurturing talent and providing a rewarding work experience that aligns with broader social values and industry innovation.
