Job Description

Christ Church is a vibrant faith community dedicated to fostering spiritual growth, serving others, and creating welcoming environments for all who visit and participate in its ministry. As a center for worship, outreach, and numerous events ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale programs, Christ Church is committed to excellence in hospitality and event management. The church prides itself on its collaborative and supportive staff culture, driven by shared values of integrity, service, and community. Serving as a cornerstone in its community, Christ Church hosts a variety of events that support spiritual formation, fellowship, and outreach to the broader public.

The Food and Events Services Assistant at Christ Church plays a vital role in bringing this vision to life by equipping the church to welcome and serve guests effectively during all internal events and outside rentals. This position offers hourly compensation between $15 and $19, along with the benefit of a 401k plan featuring a 4% employer match. Working closely with the Director of Food and Event Services, the assistant leads volunteer teams, anticipates and plans logistics, coordinates food service, and manages staffing needs. This role embodies the heart of hospitality that Christ Church seeks to offer at every gathering.

This assistant position also supports administrative functions such as ordering, billing, inventory management, and volunteer coordination. By managing these critical operational details, the Food and Events Services Assistant enables the Director to focus on higher-level organizational tasks while ensuring smooth planning and execution of events. From staff break refreshments to sizable conferences with over 700 guests, the assistant is responsible for helping plan menus, setting up welcoming spaces, and ensuring that every event runs seamlessly.

Beyond event coordination, the role includes comprehensive planning and logistical support, communication and scheduling management, and information and records maintenance. This includes keeping accurate records for volunteers and attendees, managing calendars to avoid conflicts, handling correspondence, and serving as a primary liaison for event-related communications. While the role involves a wide variety of responsibilities, it is designed to be flexible with limited hours, making it suitable for individuals who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy working with diverse teams.

Christ Church places a strong emphasis on spiritual development and community involvement. The ideal candidate regularly participates in worship, prayer, and service opportunities, modeling Christ-like character and behaviors in daily life and work relationships. This role is not just about event management but also about embodying and advancing the church’s mission through a spirit of humility, generosity, and grace. The Church encourages ongoing professional and personal growth, including training, coaching, and mentoring, to help the assistant develop as a leader and servant.

Physically, the position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks such as lifting boxes and handling kitchen equipment. A valid food handler's certification is necessary, and the assistant must have their own transportation for shopping and pickups. Proficiency in various software systems, including Microsoft Office and specialized vendor platforms, is also important for effective communication, organization, and recordkeeping.

Overall, the Food and Events Services Assistant position at Christ Church offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful community gatherings while developing both professional skills and spiritual growth in a supportive and mission-driven environment.
