Job Description
A kind and generous family based in the beautiful coastal city of Newport Beach, California, is seeking an experienced full-time live-out executive housekeeper. Newport Beach is known for its scenic views, upscale living, and vibrant community activities, making it an ideal place to maintain a well-organized household and work-life balance. This family-run household spans approximately 4,200 square feet, single-level with four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms, representing a dynamic and detailed environment for the ideal candidate to work in. The family values professionalism, discretion, and a calm home atmosphere, embracing a structured yet flexible working schedule that supports a healthy balance between work and personal life.
This executive housekeeper role involves working in-person Monday through Friday, typically from 8 am to 12 pm, with some flexibility to shift to an afternoon schedule if preferred (12 pm to 4 pm). The candidate will also be required to work one weekend day per week. Flexibility is key in this position as there may be additional remote hours assigned for important errands like grocery shopping, returns, and mail handling. Although the candidate will rarely reach a full 40-hour workweek, a full-time salary between $70,000 and $75,000 annually is offered, including benefits such as health insurance and 401(k) plans. This compensation reflects the expectation for adaptability and availability, providing a stable income with the opportunity to maintain a balanced, low-stress work environment.
The role encompasses comprehensive housekeeping duties including daily tidying, regular deep cleaning, laundry, bedding care, bathroom maintenance, and kitchen upkeep. Laundry is a significant aspect of this position, requiring expert-level skill akin to that of a laundress. This includes extensive knowledge of fabric care, such as delicate materials like leather and silk, along with proficiency in folding, ironing, and organizing closets and drawers efficiently. Maintaining order and cleanliness throughout the house is critical, as is performing light outdoor upkeep tasks such as washing down patios and handling small exterior maintenance. The housekeeper will also manage household upkeep activities including trash removal and space resetting.
Beyond housekeeping, this role also involves running errands and supporting daily household logistics. Responsibilities include light grocery shopping in coordination with the family’s chef, handling returns, managing tailoring pick-ups and drop-offs, and overseeing mail and package deliveries. There will be some opportunities to assist with simple meal preparation, mainly for the children, along with the occasional childcare duties for two toddlers. The candidate must be child-friendly and comfortable around a small dog that is present approximately 20% of the time.
Interested candidates should be highly independent, self-directed, and capable of working with minimal supervision in a calm, low-communication environment. The role demands a professional demeanor, discretion, respect for family boundaries, and a strong sense of organization and proactivity. Candidates must have a minimum of ten years of experience as a housekeeper or stewardess and a deep understanding of caring for couture garments, high-end clothing, bags, and furnishings. The position also requires a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and willingness to use their own car for work-related travel with mileage reimbursement provided.
While travel with the family is not guaranteed, there is potential for this opportunity for candidates who are available and enthusiastic about accompanying the family on trips. This executive housekeeper role offers a rare blend of structured scheduling, generous compensation, and the chance to work in a beautiful home with a kind family that values professionalism and kindness.
