Job Description
UniFirst is a renowned international leader in the garment and uniform services industry, proudly serving over 300,000 business customer locations throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Employing more than 14,000 team members, the company has built a respected reputation for delivering exceptional uniform rental, direct sale, and related services for over 80 years. UniFirst has consistently been recognized for its excellence, earning a spot among the top 10 on Selling Power magazine's "Best Companies to Sell For" list and being featured on Forbes magazine's "Platinum 400 - Best Big Companies" list. With a strong focus on continuous annual growth and a valued commitment to diversity and inclusion, UniFirst offers a dynamic work environment for professionals dedicated to impactful careers.
The Key Account Manager (KAM) position at UniFirst is crucial to upholding the company’s reputation and expanding its business relationships. The primary responsibility of the KAM is to retain and grow UniFirst’s largest key accounts by managing uniform rental contracts, direct sales agreements, and other interconnected products and services offered by the company. This role demands a strategic and proactive approach to customer relationship management, with the goal of maintaining between 94 percent and 100 percent retention of assigned accounts. The Key Account Manager assumes full accountability for all account metrics, including monitoring contract statuses, customer satisfaction levels, revenue growth, and profitability.
The role requires engaging with key personnel and decision makers at multiple levels within customer organizations through frequent outreach, scheduled visits, and biannual account reviews. By effectively utilizing both internal and external resources, the KAM identifies new revenue opportunities while ensuring existing services continuously exceed client expectations. This includes updating daily records, managing contract renewals before expiration, and collaborating closely with various internal departments to deliver outstanding service.
Furthermore, the Key Account Manager contributes to lead generation efforts, sharing potential new business opportunities with the Sales and Service teams to maximize company growth. Strategic interdepartmental coordination and maintaining strong internal relationships are essential for boosting customer satisfaction, increasing revenue streams, and enhancing overall company profitability. Beyond managing client accounts, the KAM prepares detailed business transaction reports, maintains expense accounts, and communicates regularly with management regarding sales challenges and successes.
To thrive in this role, the individual should be an adept communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across diverse business levels. They will also stay informed on sales techniques, company capabilities, and product line updates to remain competitive and informed in the marketplace. A high degree of professionalism and dedication to personal growth through continuous learning is expected.
This role necessitates frequent travel, approximately 70 to 80 percent of the time, for direct customer interaction and on-site visits. Ideal candidates will have prior successful experience in sales or service roles, preferably holding a college degree, with a demonstrated ability to negotiate contracts, solve problems, and drive business growth. Compliance with company standards, including vehicle insurance for those driving for business purposes, is mandatory.
UniFirst is committed to equal employment opportunities and does not discriminate against any individual based on various protected characteristics. The company promotes an inclusive workplace, providing reasonable accommodations during the application process for those with disabilities or medical conditions upon request. Potential employees are advised to remain vigilant against fraudulent requests for personal financial information during applications, as UniFirst recruiters will never seek such data.
