Job Description
Mountain America Credit Union is a reputable financial institution committed to providing exceptional service to its members and the community. Known for its values-based approach and strong emphasis on customer care, MACU continuously strives to enhance the member experience through innovative services, professional integrity, and dedicated teamwork. With multiple locations and a robust presence in the Utah area, the organization fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment where employees are encouraged to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to the company’s mission. As an employer, Mountain America Credit Union is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Veterans employer that values diversity and inclusion across all levels of the organization.
The Jr Sous Chef role at Mountain America Credit Union is a key position within the culinary team, specifically operating at the Mountain America Center located in Sandy, Utah. This position is responsible for independently managing food preparation and production at the assigned station in the Cairns Café, a dining outlet that serves both cafeteria-style dining and board meals. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Jr Sous Chef has the autonomy to oversee daily food preparation while supporting the culinary department’s smooth functioning. Candidates for this role can expect a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, providing a stable workweek with consistent hours.
In this role, the Jr Sous Chef will take full ownership of their station's output, ensuring that each dish is executed to high culinary standards and presented beautifully. Since the menu changes daily, creativity and the initiative to contribute new ideas are essential qualities. Beyond food preparation, this role also demands a strong emphasis on guest service, requiring team members to demonstrate professionalism and brand representation that aligns with Mountain America Credit Union’s reputation. The Jr Sous Chef will also play a mentoring role by sharing knowledge and teaching less experienced cooks, contributing to overall team skill development.
This position requires a comprehensive range of skills related to culinary techniques, kitchen equipment operation, and food safety compliance. Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards are critical responsibilities alongside adherence to health department regulations. The candidate should possess a passion for food and hospitality, a willingness to learn continuously, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement. Communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team environment are also emphasized to ensure a harmonious and efficient kitchen operation.
The role is designed for individuals with at least five years of experience in restaurant, hotel, or related food service environments, with a preference for candidates who have worked in fine dining or country club settings. Formal culinary education, such as an Associate of Occupational Studies (AOS) in Culinary Arts, is desired but may be substituted by relevant experience. Additional certifications such as a current Food Handlers Permit are required. While this position does not entail managerial responsibilities, leadership potential and a commitment to the organization’s values are highly regarded.
Overall, this opportunity offers a dynamic and rewarding work environment for culinary professionals who thrive in fast-paced settings and are eager to contribute to a well-respected company culture. Mountain America Credit Union provides support and accommodation throughout the hiring and employment process, ensuring accessibility and equity for all candidates.
