This opportunity is for a seasonal contract position as an Electrician under the Antarctic Support Contract supporting NSF’s United States Antarctic Program. Electricians will be responsible for electrical maintenance, construction, and repair tasks under the supervision of an Electrician Foreman, Project Manager Coordinator, or Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. The role requires a high level of technical competence and experience with electrical systems, equipment, and related infrastructure, operating in extreme cold weather conditions typical of Antarctic deployments. Employees will be expected to work efficiently from schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer manuals to install, maintain, inspect, test, and repair electrical branch circuits, power distribution wiring, lighting systems, equipment, and conduit following the National Electrical Code (NEC) and safety standards. This includes performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting problems, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all environmental, safety, and health protocols.

The role demands the use of a wide range of electrician hand tools, measuring and testing instruments, and application of sound technical judgment and safety knowledge, including use of personal protective equipment such as Arc Flash gear and electrical-rated gloves and boots. The Electrician will respond to emergency service calls, collaborate with other departments, document labor, materials, and processes, and assist in creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures while maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This is a full-time contract position offering a weekly pay rate of $2,190, with benefits including health insurance and life insurance. The role requires deployment to Antarctica for extended periods with mandatory medical, dental, drug screening, and federal background checks, as well as U.S. citizenship to obtain facility credentials.
