Job Description

Blakehurst is a distinguished Life Plan Community based in Towson, Maryland, just outside the vibrant city of Baltimore. Nestled on a sprawling 40-acre campus, Blakehurst is dedicated to enriching the lives of over 300 seniors by fostering a supportive and engaging environment where residents can live life to its fullest. The community prides itself on being more than just a senior living facility; it is a place where meaningful work is done by a strong, supportive team that values each member and the stories they bring. At Blakehurst, employees find more than just a job—they discover a career path woven with purpose and community spirit.

As a key part of the Environmental Services Department, the Janitor (Porter) position offers a full-time role on the evening shift, from 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm, five days a week with alternating weekends and holidays. This role is integral to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness and safety that residents and visitors expect and appreciate. The pay range for this position is competitive, between $15.75 and $17.75 per hour, reflecting the value Blakehurst places on experienced and dedicated team members.

The Janitor will be responsible for ensuring that the community spaces remain attractive, clean, and comfortable to meet the needs of residents. This involves a variety of duties, from maintaining floors and carpets to managing trash removal and upkeep of equipment and supplies. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to community standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and organization. Janitors work closely with the rest of the Environmental Services team, attending training sessions to stay updated on best practices and carrying out other duties as assigned by their supervisor.

Beyond the functional responsibilities, this role is a chance to be part of a work environment that is both engaging and fun, supported by comprehensive benefits and recognition programs funded by residents. New team members can expect access to a robust package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D insurance, long-term disability, and a 401(k) plan with company match. Additional perks such as resident-sponsored appreciation bonuses, educational scholarships, generous paid time off, paid holidays, an employee assistance program, free onsite parking, and transportation services to nearby bus stops underpin the company’s commitment to employee wellbeing.

Blakehurst’s dedication to investing in its people is evident in every aspect of its operation. From providing an exceptional work atmosphere to ensuring that employees have the tools, training, and support needed to succeed, Blakehurst stands out as an employer of choice in the senior living sector. The Janitor role is not just an operational necessity; it is a vital part of creating a livable, welcoming community for seniors to thrive in every day. By joining Blakehurst, employees become part of a legacy of care and respect for the wisest members of society, making a tangible difference in their lives and contributing to the broader mission of enriching senior living today and tomorrow.
