Job Requirements
- Comfortable working in a kitchen environment
- able to follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately
- able to operate knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks and hand trucks
- deliver friendly, courteous and prompt customer service
- able to read, write and do simple math
- able to interpret and follow instructions
- effective communication skills
- ability to interact with all levels of management
- has or willing to obtain CA Food Handler's Certificate
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- must be 18 or older to use sharp knives and operate machinery
- able to use slicer, scale, saw, knife and wrapper
- no experience required but 1-2 years preferred
- experience in grocery store seafood or sushi restaurant preferred
- possess or able to acquire a CA Food Handling license
- able to lift up to 50 pounds without aid
- knowledge of safety precautions related to equipment and food handling
Job Duties
- Cutting, packing, and cleaning fish
- food preparation
- ensures seafood is handled, stocked, rotated and merchandised
- checks product temperature to ensure freshness and quality
- ability to maintain a knife grip to cut fish or seafood to specification
- ability to weigh, price, label, organize and rotate perishable products per standards
- ensures seafood products are in proper place for customer convenience
- prepare sashimi platters
- cutting vegetables and preparing poki
- cutting and labeling seafood items
- operating pallet jack, scissor lift, baler, compactor and scrub machine
- unpacking and stocking seafood items
- maintaining cleanliness of the store and seafood department
- cleaning and sanitizing work areas
- working in extreme temperatures
- maintaining communication with management, associates and vendors
- fostering teamwork and positive morale
- assure proper displaying and selling of seafood products and advising customers
- responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of department back room and front displays
- follow employee handbook, service standards and appearance
- meet or exceed store standards in service, quality, and cleanliness
- provide premier customer service including greeting and responding to questions
- engage in suggestive selling
- meet or exceed sales goals
- maintain safe and clean work environment
- cross training
- support other departments as needed
