Job Description

Core Laboratories is a global leader specializing in providing innovative and comprehensive solutions to the petroleum and petrochemical industries. Recognized for its commitment to quality, safety, and technical excellence, Core Laboratories serves an extensive client base that includes oil refiners, petrochemical producers, and transportation companies. The company is dedicated to supporting its clients through detailed inspections, laboratory services, and consulting to optimize their production processes, ensure compliance with industry standards, and enhance operational safety. Their well-established protocols adhere to rigorous industry guidelines such as those published by the American Petroleum Institute and Saybolt, showcasing their dedication to upholding the highest standards in this highly specialized sector.

The role of Inspector I at Core Laboratories is pivotal in maintaining quality control and safety across petroleum and petrochemical terminals, as well as refineries and transportation vessels including barges and ships. This position involves performing essential inspection duties that contribute directly to operational integrity and compliance. Inspectors conduct thorough visual inspections of storage tanks, including entering confined spaces which requires a strong adherence to safety protocols. The role demands a meticulous verification of measurement equipment accuracy and the ability to safely handle hazardous materials per Material Safety Data Sheets.

Inspectors are tasked with taking precise product measurements and samples, promptly completing detailed reports and forms, and managing inventories efficiently. Beyond routine inspection activities, Inspector I may be assigned additional inspection-related duties to support the broader objectives of the inspection department. Adherence to various safety manuals, company policies, and procedural guidelines is critical to this position, ensuring consistent quality and safety in all inspection tasks.

Training is an integral part of this role, with inspectors expected to participate in relevant examinations and courses covering petroleum, chemical, and gas inspection procedures. This includes important safety and regulatory education such as Right-to-Know training and hazardous materials transportation. Core Laboratories also encourages cross-training opportunities, enabling inspectors to develop a working knowledge of laboratory procedures, which broadens their skill set and enhances their contribution to the company's mission.

The ideal candidate for Inspector I will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of inspection experience or related work. Key personal attributes include a professional appearance, strong customer service orientation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with various stakeholders. Inspectors must possess a valid driver's license with a clean record and maintain a reliable vehicle suitable for transporting samples safely and operating under various weather conditions. Occasional travel, both local and out-of-town, is part of the job requirements.

Physically, the role is demanding, requiring the capability to lift weights up to 100 pounds occasionally and having the necessary vision capabilities such as close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focusing ability. The work environment may expose inspectors to airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and varying noise levels, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment for extended periods. Core Laboratories is committed to diversity and inclusion, ensuring equal employment opportunities for all qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, age, disability, or other protected characteristics. This position provides a meaningful career path with a company that values safety, accuracy, and professional development within the vital petroleum and petrochemical industry.
