The job supports SHA's strategic objectives involving timely maintenance, habitable living conditions, early intervention on property issues, and the overall wellbeing of residents. This position is responsible for conducting thorough and routine inspections to address maintenance problems and pest control concerns, often discovering unreported issues that could compromise the safety and comfort of residents.

The Housing Inspector works closely with SHA’s Resident Support Services (RSS) team, facilitating immediate coordination to connect residents with any needed health, safety, or habitability assistance. This collaborative approach is designed to enhance resident support and improve living conditions while reducing complaints and concerns related to housing issues. The inspector’s role also extends to helping prepare for redevelopment relocation readiness by identifying and mitigating potential obstacles to resident moves.

Key responsibilities include conducting initial, follow-up, and focused inspections to verify that work orders related to maintenance, pest control, and lease violations are completed effectively. The Inspector also ensures excellent record-keeping by utilizing housing inspection software on portable devices like laptops or tablets, maintaining detailed documentation critical for ongoing housing management and compliance. Although working under the general supervision of higher-level staff, the Pioneer Homes Housing Inspector functions with a high degree of autonomy to achieve timely and thorough inspections tailored to the community’s needs.

This is an Open-Competitive Onondaga County Civil Service position offering a salary range of $45,791 to $58,363, with the hiring salary between $45,791 and $52,962. Employment is contingent upon passing the applicable Onondaga County Civil Service Exam, successful completion of background checks, verification of education and work history, drug screening, and proof of legal work authorization.
