Job Description
Montefiore Medical Center, located in the Bronx, New York, is a leading healthcare organization committed to providing high-quality medical care and support services to its community. Known for its dedication to innovation, patient-centered care, and comprehensive health solutions, Montefiore Medical Center serves as a major academic medical center and healthcare provider in the region. The institution is driven by a mission to improve health outcomes through excellence in patient care, medical education, and research. Montefiore fosters an inclusive work environment where diversity and equal opportunity are fundamental, promoting a culture where every associate is valued and empowered to contribute to the overall goals of the center.
The role of Environmental Services (EVS) Worker within Montefiore’s FAC - EVS MWS Admin department involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across various hospital premises in the Bronx facility. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all patient care areas, administrative offices, hallways, stairways, nursing stations, bathrooms, and ancillary spaces meet the rigorous cleanliness standards established by the Medical Center. Working in this capacity requires an individual who is detail-oriented, reliable, and dedicated to maintaining a safe and hygienic environment that supports patient healing and staff efficiency.
The position is full-time with variable work days and a scheduled shift from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, encompassing 7.5 hours per day. The hourly rate begins at $25.13 but may be adjusted based on shift differentials, experience, education, and other relevant factors. The associate hired for this role is expected to contribute to the Montefiore Difference by upholding the institution’s standards of excellence, participating actively in quality control, and demonstrating commitment to the health and safety of patients and colleagues.
Environmental Services Workers are entrusted with essential tasks such as cleaning rooms thoroughly for patient discharge, managing sanitation in both clinical and non-clinical areas, ensuring supply closets are organized, and complying with hospital protocols for waste disposal, including red bag waste. Key responsibilities include polishing and dusting furniture and equipment, replenishing disposable items like soap and paper towels, and responding promptly to emergency situations such as floods or snow events. Documentation and communication of specialty cleaning activities, including areas like the Operating Room (OR) and Cath Lab, are also an important element of this role.
Candidates must be prepared to work every weekend during their first two years at Montefiore to ensure consistent coverage and support of hospital operations. The position demands adherence to strict health and safety guidelines, including annual assessments and fit testing under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Montefiore Medical Center offers a supportive work environment where employees are encouraged to grow professionally while contributing to superior patient outcomes. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in maintaining clinical environments and who seek to be an integral part of a renowned healthcare team.
