The role we are offering is for a Housekeeper, a key position that directly influences hygiene and safety standards within the healthcare environment. The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility, ensuring that all areas are spotless, safe, and comfortable for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is essential in preventing infections and contributing to a healing atmosphere. Specific duties include sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, bathrooms, dining areas, and public spaces, as well as managing waste removal and maintaining supplies. The Housekeeper follows strict infection control standards and uses appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and effectively.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous experience in housekeeping or cleaning preferred
  • knowledge of basic cleaning techniques and safety practices
  • ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • physical ability to perform housekeeping duties including standing walking and manual handling
  • good communication skills
  • willingness to work in a healthcare environment
  • familiarity with infection control practices
  • ability to use cleaning chemicals safely
  • basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook Excel and Word

Job Duties

  • Sweep damp mop and wet mop tile floors
  • spray buff strip or wax floors as required
  • report carpet cleaning needs to supervisor
  • vacuum carpeted rooms
  • dust and damp clean surfaces in patient rooms
  • empty trash cans clean exterior and interior and replace liners
  • clean bathroom sinks fixtures and toilets
  • clean glass surfaces such as mirrors pictures and windows
  • clean behind and underneath furnishings
  • move furniture to clean behind and underneath
  • turn bed mattresses after cleaning
  • clean dining area after meals including tables sweep and mop
  • change soiled privacy curtains and draperies
  • remove and rehang curtains using ladders
  • sweep outside porches and walkways and pick up litter
  • follow cleaning schedules and infection control standards
  • use isolation techniques when required
  • respect patient rights and treat patients and belongings with dignity
  • safeguard and safely handle cleaning chemicals
  • assist with care and use of housekeeping equipment and storage areas
  • clean and store equipment properly at end of shifts
  • inspect equipment for safe operation and report repairs
  • maintain adequate bathroom supplies
  • prevent and remove wax and dirt build-up
  • promote the organization's image and participate in committees and workgroups
  • perform other duties as needed for organizational success
