Job Description
Community Memorial Health System (CMHS) is a respected and comprehensive healthcare provider serving West Ventura County. Established in 2005 through the merger of Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura and Ojai Valley Community Hospital, CMHS has developed into a robust health network that includes two hospitals and numerous primary and specialty care health centers. As a community-owned and not-for-profit organization, CMHS prioritizes the wellbeing of the communities it serves, operating independently from corporate or government entities and shareholders. This community-centered ethos positions CMHS as a trusted provider of medical care, making it an integral part of the region's healthcare infrastructure.
Community Memorial Hospital - Ventura, a flagship facility within the CMHS network, is distinguished by a prestigious five-star rating awarded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This notable achievement reflects the dedication and exceptional service provided daily by thousands of healthcare workers committed to delivering quality patient care. CMHS is unique in Ventura County as the only hospital to have earned this top-tier recognition, demonstrating its commitment to excellence and patient outcomes.
The position being offered is for an Environmental Services (EVS) Technician, a critical role within the hospital responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment across various hospital areas including patient rooms, surgical and procedural units, laboratories, offices, and hallways. This full-time, 8-hour variable shift role requires the EVS Technician to clean and disinfect hospital spaces, handle and dispose of biohazardous waste responsibly, and manage supplies and equipment essential for effective cleaning operations. The role demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to strict safety protocols to ensure infection control and patient safety.
A vital element of the EVS Technician’s responsibilities involves cleaning patient rooms, including the possibility of cleaning rooms occupied by COVID-19 patients. The hospital takes employee safety seriously and as such provides all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks and gloves along with comprehensive training and education to safeguard staff, patients, and the community from infection. Working in this role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to public health and patient care environments.
The salary range for this position is $21.00 to $28.49 per hour, which accounts for the lowest and highest pay rates depending on individual skills, qualifications, relevant years of experience, and comparative assessments with other employees in similar roles. New hires are typically placed below the midpoint of this range. This reflects CMHS’s competitive compensation structure, aimed at rewarding expertise, experience, and commitment.
Working at CMHS means joining a workforce that values its employees by providing a wide range of benefits designed to support health, wellness, and professional growth. From competitive pay and shift differentials to comprehensive healthcare coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance, the benefits package is crafted to ensure peace of mind for employees and their families. Additional offerings include a 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, employee assistance programs available 24/7, tuition reimbursement, and public service loan forgiveness. CMHS also promotes a culture of recognition and community engagement through various programs and celebratory events.
The EVS Technician position is ideal for individuals who have strong communication skills in English, understand safety data sheets related to chemical handling, and demonstrate courtesy and professionalism when interacting with patients, co-workers, and medical personnel. Previous experience in housekeeping, janitorial work, or related fields is preferred, as is proficiency in both English and Spanish. CMHS emphasizes diversity and inclusion, affirming its commitment to equal employment opportunities regardless of age, race, gender, disability, or other protected statuses. Working in this role means becoming part of a diverse, supportive community dedicated to making a meaningful impact on local health outcomes.
