This job opportunity is for a Full Time Hourly Sous Chef position at the Elmwood Ochsner location in New Orleans, Louisiana. The role offers a full-time schedule with open availability preferred, primarily Monday through Friday, with hours possibly varying between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with more specific details provided during the interview process. The pay range for this position is between $17.00 and $18.00 per hour.
The Sous Chef will play a pivotal role in food preparation and kitchen operations, assisting the Executive Chef in cooking and preparing meals according to approved recipes and production standards. This role requires a strong knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and cold food preparation methods to ensure meals meet both culinary and safety guidelines. In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef will assume responsibility for overseeing the kitchen and managing foodservice associates.
Key responsibilities include supervising hourly food service associates, participating in hiring processes, training staff, scheduling, handling payroll tasks, and addressing performance issues when necessary. Ensuring food is stored properly in compliance with corporate, state, and federal food safety standards is crucial to this role. The Sous Chef will also maintain appropriate food presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures while maintaining a clean and sanitary workspace at all times.
Interacting with customers in a friendly and professional manner to resolve complaints and provide clear information about menu items forms an essential part of customer service for this position. The Sous Chef will monitor food production, inventory, and waste, communicating with supervisors regarding supply levels and production needs.

Job Requirements

- prior experience as a cook or in a similar culinary role

Job Duties
- cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
- ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
- supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate
- stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
- maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
- cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to comply with all sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
- interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- relays relevant information directly to supervisor
- demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
- keeps up with peak production and service hours
- monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- tracks product production, consumption and waste
- informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
- performs other duties as assigned
