The company has built its reputation by innovating and exceeding customer expectations while fostering a collaborative culture based on teamwork, integrity, and community involvement. Vistar specializes in delivering a diverse range of products, from popcorn to healthy meal replacements, to various locations nationwide. They are committed to creating a safe and inclusive working environment where employees are rewarded, recognized, and respected for their contributions.
The role of Driver, Hourly CDL-B at Vistar is a vital position within the company’s operation, primarily responsible for the delivery of food and food-related products to customers safely, efficiently, and on time. Drivers in this role operate tractor trailers or straight trucks on local, shuttle, overnight, and drive-and-drop routes, ensuring that products arrive in excellent condition. This position supports the essential function of America's food distribution system by maintaining strong professional relationships with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Employment with Vistar offers a predictable Mon-Fri schedule with local routes and guarantee of returning home daily, which appeals to drivers seeking work-life balance and consistency. The pay rate is competitive at $24 per hour and includes day one health and wellness benefits, a 401K employer matching program, employee stock purchase plan, education assistance, paid time off, and many other valuable benefits.
Drivers based at Vistar are expected to conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of their vehicles and trailers to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards. They are responsible for verifying that freight is correctly loaded, secured, and measured against customer invoices before delivery. The role involves maneuvering the tractor trailer or straight truck to and from loading docks, attaching preloaded trailers, delivering customer orders according to predetermined schedules, unloading products, and storing them appropriately. Drivers perform damage control checks, scan items, and communicate with supervisors if items need to be removed or handled differently. They also manage essential paperwork accurately, including logs for hours of service to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
In addition to transportation duties, the role requires interaction with customers to verify deliveries and obtain signatures, collect payments, and handle customer returns properly by securing trailer doors and unloading damaged goods. Drivers maintain the cleanliness and safety of their vehicles, loading dock areas, and trailers. This position offers growth opportunities in a credible company that values the contribution of each employee in ensuring America’s food distribution runs smoothly. Vistar’s inclusive and reward-oriented culture supports drivers in performing their critical roles while advancing their careers in the logistics and delivery sector.
