The CDL-A Driver position at Vistar is pivotal to ensuring that food and food service products move efficiently and safely from distribution centers to customers. As a CDL-A Driver, you will be entrusted with operating tractor-trailers or straight trucks on various types of delivery routes including intrastate, interstate, local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes. The role demands strict compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and adherence to company safety policies to maintain high standards of safety and service. Beyond delivering products, drivers act as the face of Vistar by building and fostering strong, lasting relationships with customers through professional communication and reliable service.
This role requires a high level of responsibility and attention to detail, including performing all necessary safety checks on vehicles and trailers, ensuring that freight is properly loaded and secured, and accurately completing all associated paperwork. Drivers will be responsible for counting and verifying product deliveries, unloading and loading freight, performing damage control checks, and maintaining cleanliness and security of their equipment. The role also includes interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers, requiring excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism. Drivers will keep rigorous logs of hours of service, submit reports as required by federal and state regulations, and assist with general housekeeping duties to ensure operational efficiency.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent
- Valid CDL-A license
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report for the past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attain or have valid current DOT health card or be able to secure a new DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler or lift gate to move and stack product cases/freight
- 6 or 12 months commercial driving experience
Job Qualifications

- Valid CDL-A license
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
- Clean motor vehicle report for the past 3 years
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attain or have valid current DOT health card or be able to secure a new DOT health card
- Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment such as two-wheeler or lift gate to move and stack product cases/freight ranging from 10 to 90 pounds depending on location
Job Duties
- Perform all required safety checks including pre/post trip inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation regulations
- Inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and report all safety issues and repairs required
- Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
- Report all safety hazards immediately and inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight
- Perform count check of items and verify customer invoices of loaded products and complete all required paperwork accurately
- Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to predetermined route delivery schedule and unload products into designated customer storage areas
- Perform damage control checks, scan deliveries, contact supervisor about removing orders as per company policy
- Verify delivery with customer and obtain proper signatures and collect money where required
- Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors ensuring tractor, trailer, and freight are properly locked and secured
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns and complete necessary paperwork
- Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area and complete all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
- Complete daily record of hours of service and enter in log according to DOT and company requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned
