The CDL-A Driver role at Vistar plays a vital part in our food service delivery operations. Drivers are entrusted with transporting products safely and timely while serving as the face of the company, building strong relationships with customers. This full-time position involves driving tractor trailers or straight trucks for various routes including intrastate, interstate, shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Drivers must comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards to maintain safe and efficient operations. The role requires performing pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, verifying load security, handling freight, and completing accurate delivery documentation. Additionally, drivers communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and colleagues, addressing inquiries and ensuring a smooth delivery process.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • 6 or 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize two-wheeler, lift gate, or other equipment to move and stack freight weighing between 10 to 90 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • 6 or 12 months commercial driving experience
  • Valid CDL-A
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Meet all state licensing and certification requirements where applicable
  • Clean motor vehicle report for past 3 years
  • Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check
  • Pass road test
  • Attain or have valid current DOT health card or able to secure new DOT health card
  • Able to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases and freight of varying size and weight

Job Duties

  • Perform all required safety checks including pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractor, truck, and trailer according to DOT regulations
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies
  • Immediately report all safety hazards and inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight
  • Perform count check of items and verify customer invoices of loaded products
  • Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed
  • Drive and deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route delivery schedule
  • Unload products and transport items to designated customer storage areas
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scan, and contact supervisor for order removal as per company policy
  • Verify delivery of items with customer and obtain proper signatures
  • Collect money where required
  • Load customer returns onto trailer and secure trailer doors
  • Ensure tractor, trailer, and freight are always secured and locked
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, complete necessary paperwork
  • Complete daily record of hours of service and log according to Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractor and loading dock area and secure all equipment at end of shift
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
