Job Description

Kew Green Hotels is one of the UK’s leading hotel management companies, operating a diverse portfolio of global brands. As a people-driven business, Kew Green Hotels is passionate about performance, guest experience, and creating hotels and teams that make everyone proud. Their commitment extends to fostering an inclusive workplace where every individual can thrive, supported by comprehensive development programs and well-structured recruitment processes. The company’s portfolio boasts a variety of properties, each staffed by dedicated teams that focus on delivering exceptional service and operating efficiently to meet brand standards and customer expectations.

Holiday Inn Washington, located in Washington, Tyne and Wear, is a prominent 3-star property on the outskirts of Newcastle, Durham, and Sunderland. Situated conveniently close to the A1, it serves as an ideal stopover for travelers exploring the Northumberland coast or visiting regional attractions such as Durham Castle, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the Beamish Open Air Museum, and the Stadium of Light in Sunderland. The hotel features three large conference suites suitable for social banquets and corporate events, along with six smaller meeting rooms for more intimate gatherings. It embodies a perfect combination of comfort, business utility, and cultural proximity.

The role of Hotel Manager at Holiday Inn Washington offers an exceptional opportunity for a creative and visionary leader to join an already successful team and help shape the next chapter of the hotel’s journey. This full-time permanent role with a salary starting from £38,000 per annum plus benefits requires someone with a solid understanding of hotel operations who is enthusiastic about developing the business, fostering momentum, and cultivating a motivated and well-supported workforce. Reporting directly to the Regional General Manager, the Hotel Manager will oversee the smooth day-to-day running of hotel operations, ensuring commercial performance targets and guest satisfaction goals are consistently met and surpassed.

This role is not just about effective management but also about inspiring people. The successful candidate will lead from the front by nurturing and developing a team of committed Heads of Department (HODs). This includes preparing the team for future challenges by establishing succession plans and empowering them to excel in their roles. The manager’s leadership will be central in creating a culture of ownership and collaboration, where every team member feels valued, trained, supported, and inspired to deliver their best every day.

Key responsibilities include managing budgets, controlling expenditures, recruiting and training hotel employees, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and licensing regulations. The Hotel Manager will be expected to continuously improve business operations, implement standard procedures, maximize revenue, and monitor employee performance closely. Identifying new growth opportunities to drive revenue and enhance the hotel’s local reputation will also form a critical part of the role. As such, the ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional communication abilities, financial acumen, and a customer-centric approach complemented by a solution-driven mindset.

In addition to operational excellence, the role requires someone innovative and detail-oriented, with a keen eye for property maintenance and compliance issues. The successful applicant must hold or be willing to obtain a personal licence and act as the Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS). The company will support this process and cover related costs. A commitment to creating a positive work environment where coaching and development lead to employee satisfaction and retention is essential.

Kew Green Hotels values career development and offers their team members the chance to grow through fully funded apprenticeships and internal development programs. Employees benefit from discounts on hotel stays and major retailers, leisure facilities access, and round-the-clock wellbeing, financial, and legal support. This role is ideal for a passionate hotel professional looking to drive results and lead a thriving team in an exciting, culturally rich area of the UK.
