Located in the heart of Watkins Glen, the Colonial Inn & Creamery is a charming 16-room property that offers guests a uniquely welcoming, home-away-from-home experience. In addition to our boutique lodging, we proudly operate a bustling on-site Ice Cream Parlor and Pizza Shop. We experience high seasonality—our summers are fast-paced and fully staffed across all operations, while our winters offer a quiet, intimate retreat for our guests.

The Role

We are seeking a dedicated, highly active Live-In Innkeeper who will treat the Colonial Inn & Creamery as their own home. This is not a behind-the-desk, office-bound management role; it is a strictly hands-on position designed for a true hospitality professional who thrives on the floor.

You will be the face of the property, seamlessly pivoting from welcoming guests at the front desk to scooping ice cream or helping out in the pizza shop during a busy summer rush. In the winter, the pace slows down, and you will be responsible for independently managing the property alongside perhaps one other team member.

Key Responsibilities

• Guest Experience: Serve as the primary host for the property. Welcome guests, manage seamless check-ins and check-outs, and provide local recommendations to ensure a memorable stay.
• Property Stewardship: Treat the inn as your own home. Maintain a watchful eye over the grounds, lobby, and guest areas to ensure the property is always spotless, safe, and inviting.
• Food & Beverage Support: Roll up your sleeves and actively assist in the daily operations of the Ice Cream Parlor and Pizza Shop, especially during the high-traffic summer season.
• Seasonal Adaptability: Lead a fully staffed team across all departments during the bustling peak summer months, and smoothly transition to running the property independently (with a skeleton crew of 1-2 people) during the quiet winter season.
• Operational Readiness: Step in wherever needed—whether that means answering phones, assisting with room turnovers, or resolving guest issues on the fly.

Qualifications

• Experience: Prior experience as an Innkeeper, General Manager, or similar role in a highly hands-on boutique hotel or inn environment.
• Work Style: Exceptional bias for action. You prefer being on your feet and interacting with people over sitting in an office.
• Flexibility: Willingness to jump between hospitality, food service, and property management tasks in a single shift.
• Temperament: Warm, hospitable, and unflappable. You must be comfortable managing the high stress of a fully booked summer weekend and the quiet isolation of a slow winter Tuesday.
• Requirements: Must be willing to live on-site full-time and have innkeeper experience
