The General Manager position at Courtyard by Marriott Lackland plays a crucial leadership role, tasked with directing and coordinating all hotel operations to achieve maximum efficiency, profitability, and guest satisfaction. The General Manager’s responsibilities span overseeing every department, ensuring cohesive and productive collaboration, and maintaining the highest standards of service delivery. This leadership role demands excellent communication, team-building, and operational skills to effectively manage resources and meet business objectives. The General Manager is also expected to respond promptly to guest and associate concerns, constantly identify opportunities to enhance the guest experience, and actively promote the hotel within local markets and associations.

This full-time position requires a strategic leader who can foster a positive and collaborative work environment. The General Manager will plan, develop, and implement organizational policies and goals, coordinate departmental activities, manage budget allocations with a focus on financial optimization, and lead promotional efforts to expand the hotel’s market presence. Supervisory duties include interviewing, hiring, training, performance management, and employee development, with an emphasis on coaching and mentoring to build a motivated and skilled workforce. This role also demands the application of key competencies such as technical skills, change management, delegation, leadership, managing people, business acumen, diversity, ethics, and strategic thinking.

Successful candidates for this position will hold a bachelor’s degree and have one to two years of previous experience as a General Manager in a hotel environment. Marriott experience is preferred but not mandatory. The role involves working independently and managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a focus on quality and timelines. Physical requirements are moderate and generally include occasional standing, walking, and lifting of light items. Job Duties

  • Plan, develop and implement organization policies and goals
  • Coordinate activities of departments within the hotel to ensure operational efficiency
  • Direct and coordinate promotion of hotel services to develop new markets, increase market share, and gain competitive position
  • Analyze department budget requests to identify cost reductions and allocate operating budget
  • Confer with administrative personnel and review reports to determine operational changes
  • Prepare directives for Regional Director of Operations regarding policies and programs
  • Promote hotel within local associations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management
