Job Description
JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa is a luxurious hotel and resort located in Tucson, Arizona, known for its beautiful desert setting and exceptional guest services. This resort offers world-class accommodations, fine dining, recreational activities, and a serene spa experience, making it a top destination for travelers seeking comfort, relaxation, and adventure. Owned and operated by Marriott International, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, the resort upholds Marriott's commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and professional development of its staff. With a focus on maintaining high standards, the engineering and facilities teams play a crucial role in ensuring the property’s infrastructure and guest amenities operate flawlessly.
The Full-Time Overnight Shift Engineer position at JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa is a non-management role based at the resort location. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance and engineering duties throughout the property to support the daily operations and uphold the resort’s brand standards. The job entails responding to and resolving guest repair requests during the overnight hours, thus ensuring the resort remains a comfortable and safe environment at all times. It requires both technical knowledge and customer service skills, as the engineer interacts directly with guests to communicate and address maintenance issues efficiently.
Key responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, carrying out visual inspections, and troubleshooting a diverse range of systems such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and pneumatic/electronic controls. The role demands proficiency in various maintenance areas like carpentry, kitchen equipment repair, vehicle maintenance, energy conservation, and general building management. The engineer must also be skilled in repairing or replacing plumbing pipes including soldering copper pipes, basic electrical repairs, and programming guestroom televisions.
This position involves working safely by following company policies, including the use of Lockout/Tagout systems, and handling flammable materials properly. The engineer plays a role in maintaining inventory, ordering necessary parts and supplies, and communicating effectively with other shifts to ensure smooth operations. The ability to mentor junior engineers and perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities is also valued for this role.
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent with a vocational or technical background, and at least 2 years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience, particularly with surface preparation and painting. The role also requires a valid driver’s license and Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification, complying with state and federal licensing. Although supervisory experience is not required, the shift engineer should demonstrate teamwork, adherence to safety standards, and professional appearance.
JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa is committed to employee development and offers a supportive work environment that values dedication and expertise. The overnight shift schedule reflects the operational needs of the resort, and this role is perfect for individuals looking to grow their career in hotel engineering within a reputable hospitality brand. By joining Marriott, employees gain access to growth opportunities, competitive pay, and benefits designed to promote work-life balance and career advancement.
