Job Description
The Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel, located at 5501 Carnegie Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina, is a distinguished upscale hotel that offers guests a blend of luxury and comfort. Renowned for its elegant accommodations, exceptional service, and prime location in Charlotte's vibrant SouthPark area, this hotel caters to both business and leisure travelers seeking an elevated hospitality experience. The Renaissance brand is part of Marriott International, a global leader in the hospitality industry, dedicated to providing outstanding customer service and maintaining high standards of quality across all its properties. At Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark Hotel, employees are encouraged to contribute to a welcoming and professional atmosphere that emphasizes guest satisfaction and operational excellence. The hotel also provides amenities such as free parking and meals to its staff, enhancing the overall employee experience.
This position is a full-time, non-management role in the Engineering and Facilities category, offering a competitive pay range of $23.34 to $24.74 per hour. The role is pivotal in maintaining the hotel's infrastructure and ensuring guest comfort by promptly addressing repair and maintenance needs. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for responding to guest repair requests efficiently and communicating with guests to resolve maintenance issues with minimal supervision. The engineer will perform preventative maintenance on various tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication, as well as conducting visual inspections.
The role requires proficiency in multiple technical domains such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicle maintenance, energy conservation, and general building management. The Maintenance Engineer should demonstrate a solid knowledge of safe tool use, basic pipe repair, troubleshooting and repairing plumbing, electrical equipment, and guestroom amenities, including programming TVs and performing housekeeping-related engineering duties.
Additional responsibilities include assisting with painting, drywall, and wood trim repairs, performing light bulb and air conditioning filter replacements, and following lockout/tagout safety protocols before maintenance work. The applicant must be familiar with engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management and capable of mid-level troubleshooting of the hotel’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. The role involves mentoring junior engineers, taking on Engineer on Duty duties, and complying with all safety and company policies.
Physical requirements of the job include the ability to move, lift, and carry objects up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with assistance. The maintenance engineer must also be comfortable using stairs, ramps, or ladders and performing motions such as bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. A valid driver’s license is required, and the position demands a Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification compliant with all federal and state regulations.
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED with a technical background and at least two years of hotel engineering or general maintenance experience. Though supervisory experience is not required, the role requires strong communication skills, professionalism in appearance, confidentiality, and a team-oriented mindset focused on guest satisfaction and operational standards. Employees at Renaissance Charlotte SouthPark are valued for their dedication to quality and are supported with training and a positive work environment.
